children fascinated
This was a great book! During reading time today the kids were mesmerized by the book. This probably led to a good 30 minutes of dialogue afterwards. It was great as I read to kiddos with the age span between eight and 16 and it captured all of them.

A favorite book in our house
My 4-year-old son ADORES this book. I thought he might be a bit young for it, but it has really captured his imagination, and he asks to have it read to him over and over again. He wants to read it before bed, and then listen to whale sounds as he falls asleep to pretend he's exploring the ocean too. It's prompted so many questions about the ocean and how we help take care of it. He even loves the last page after the story is over which has the names of different fish and sea creatures-- he wants to learn about them all.

This is a good easy book to do a book report for an autobiography on.
Easy for my kid to read. It was a quick read for myself so I could help my kid with the book report. The pictures are great. She lead an amazing life for kids to get excited about if they like marine life or biology.

So glad it's out there - also it's beautifully illustrated
I bought this book for my niece who wants to be an "Under Water Scientist" and loves to read. When I searched and found this book I was thrilled to know it was based on a true story and a pioneering woman and her work nonetheless! She loves the book and was in awe it was a true story. So glad it's out there - also it's beautifully illustrated! Inspiration for the next generation!

Inspirational Woman
So glad to share this story with my k students. The illustrations are great and the topic choice (woman oceanographer Sylvia Earle) very inspiring. I do have to say the language isn't all that accessible for 5 and 6 year olds, a little too complex. Really wanted a book for my k girl students to have as role model. All in all a good book to read along with Manfish and another book about Jacques Cousteau.

Amazing book for little scientists!
My 3rd Graders and I LOVE this book! I used it for a beginning of year "What Makes a Great Scientist" lesson, and it was incredible! The kids were so engaged with the text and the pictures and had so many amazing questions about the animals mentioned and about Earle herself. I looked up their answers and we watched videos about her and another about whales the next day. This is a beautiful book!

Where are the life forms hidden?
Drawings are fascinating to both youngsters and adults. Search for the garter snake in the garden. .....wonders hidden in the usual nature scenes become visible to the reader. A WOW slender book for the curious of all ages.

And unusual an intriguing story
beautifully written and lovely illustrations. At first glance this looks like a children's book but it would interest anyone who want s to be informed about oceanography and the people who get involved in it.

Beautiful illustrations
My almost 4 yr old loves the ocean and this book fits the bill for showing the beautiful creatures who live there. My husband and I learned about Sylvia and her adventures right along with our daughter. Some of the text is long and we skip a sentence of two, but overall a great book for ocean and adventure lovers of all ages.
