Made trolling for trout amazing!
I love these things! They work flawlessly on my fishing canoe with some fine tuning of marking the cable at 20 ft intervals for easier dropping of the 4lb ball to the desired depth then bringing it up or down depending on what depth the fish are at. The only improvement they could use is using two tightening screws on a rectangular plate instead of the circle. But with a bit of modification to my canoe they do fine. I recommend using Scotties braided line vs the stainless steel cable if you want less noise.

Decent value for the money !
I use this on my aluminum fishing boat. The screw clamp to the side of the boat works well but does not make me feel confident in how secure it holds the downrigger. Does not screw tightly to the sidewall of the boat.

These things are awesome! They work very well on my 16' mod v jon boat. We catch a lot of 16 - 20" kokanee salmon usong these. They are built like a tank - seriously! I smashed one that was mounted on boat into a dock at 5mph, and it bent the clamp screw in a 45 degree angle. It managed to get it off and using vice grips, a rock (yes a rock), and a metal bracket attached to a dock and a lot of muscle power I got the bolt/clamp back to straight and it works like brand new. I mean i put huge torque on the plastic grip holding the clamp screw and didnt break it. I cant say enough good things about it!

Great little downrigger
A little noisy but that doesn't bother me. I had to install a block of wood to the side of the boat so it can clamp securely. The only issue I had was the little cap fell off. I'll install a locking nut before next use so the tension knob won't fall off. A great downrigger for a small boat that won't hurt the wallet.

Lot of slop and noise
I expected better from Scotty. This thing grinds and wobbles when pulling up the downrigger ball. So much so I've started using slip weights to get to depth cause this thing is annoying. While annoying, have to admit I've caught fish using it.

So much nicer than the lake trailer down rigger
This is a great downrigger for a small kayak or boat.

Simple and effective
I had never used a downrigger before buying this for my jon boat . It is a real workout to use , and for how much force it feels like is hanging off the thing , it seems a bit flimsy. The clamp on system is good and bad , it seems prone to coming loose , and it’s annoying not being able to pivot it in to the boat , for me it worked best on the transom beside the boat motor . The plus side is that it isn’t permanently attached to the boat so I can remove it easily when not in use . It actually comes with a downrigger clip , which is nice . Overall , it’s one of the cheapest downriggers I could find , it’s simple and for its intended purpose it works

Nothing to dislike- yes it has been used

No depth counter
It is too expensive for what it is.It would've been nice to know there is no line counter to show depth. You can see it on your fish finder sometimes as you release the cannonballs. Also it is only rated for max 5 lb cannonballs so there may be blowback (downrigger cable is angled and not straight down). The release mechanism is kind of hokey. Not impressed Scotty.

Works well, use but don’t abuse
Could be built heavier but quality is decent. This is my second unit
