Outrageous Fortune [DVD]

This is a very funny film, I believe anything with Bette Midler is good anyway but she and Shelley Long work well together. Two opposites who form an unlikely friendship when they realise that they have been dating the same man and he is not who they thought he was. There are so many memorable scenes and the build up towards the end is fantastic. It reminds me of 'Ruthless People' which also starred Bette Midler and whilst Outrageous Fortune is not as 'laugh out loud' it is still a 5 star.

There are some good elements to this film. Shelley Long is very much her 'Diane' character and Bette Midler is her counterpart, not quite a 'Carla' but certainly what the English would call 'common'. The chemistry works, but the film is spoilt by the hackneyed CIA people and the regulation chasing around in vehicles of various sorts, which reduces a lot of this to slapstick. I did enjoy the fake Native American though.
