You can choose to paint one side or both. I'd recommend priming first as you will see a join in the wood on some cutouts. There's no instructions how to attach the chimes. There aren't enough chimes to put four on each one, I'm 7 chimes short. They'd look good on a Christmas tree or just hanging somewhere for Christmas.
