So a 16gb thumb drive is perfect. However, two things to remember: 1. format the thumb drive to NTSF. otherwise the recording will be split into 1gb files; 2. When you are done, click the recording button and it starts blinking blue and green -- DO NOT remove the USB drive until the blinking has stopped (watch it for at least 5 seconds to make sure). If you remove the drive too early, your recording will disappear. **Q: So this can record HDMI from cable TV box, even though it's encrypted for all but non-recording devices?** A: Yes.I was able to record from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, DirecTV DVR. All of these devices enforce HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) over the HDMI interface. There will be no trouble recording from your Cable box.You may have to set the output resolution to a fixed resolution. My DirecTV box was set to change resolution depending on the channel.
