Liberon Decking Oil 2.5 Litre - Clear

I bought this to prevent new decking from staining and becoming slippery.Now this stuff is not cheap, and there are certainly cheaper alternatives available of which I have no experience. But I read good reviews of this; also from those reviews it seemed that other oils which said they provided a "clear" finish actually coloured the wood. I didn't want that, so this was just the thing.Living in Britain I have had to wait nearly four weeks before the weather has been dry long enough to be able to apply this stuff. So the other morning I was out in the garden at 8am in appropriate clothing armed with a wooden spoon for stirring the stuff and a brush for painting fences - buy a big brush or you will be there all day.My garden is quite small and without measuring I'd guestimate the decked area is about 18 ft wide by 10ft long. I began by applying to the balustrade and was stunned to see I had used almost a fifth of the tin.Then I set to applying it to the deck surfaces. It goes on quite nicely and in places leaves a milky film that eventually clears. I was quite concerned when I did the splits several times, despite wearing safety boots with very good gripping soles, but I soldiered on. So I recommend you take reasonable care and keeps kids and animals away.Half way through went in for a cup of tea, became distracted and an hour later found that the oiled areas were now very tacky. I phoned a carpenter friend who told me that it was fine, if I had put on too much I could always remove it with a lint free cloth, but in any case it would eventually dry. So I worked my way backwards up to the back door and smiled at a job finished.Later that evening I went out onto the deck, not only had the tackiness gone, but now the wood was not slippery as it was before the application.This morning I surveyed my work and praised my foresight as drizzle saturates everything in sight and noticed that every surface oiled yesterday is now water resistant! The water was sitting on top of the wood and could be brushed away easily. Please note however that any excess oil will be brushed away too. So if you have a yard broom or deck brush don't use it indoor afterwards. With a bit of luck I won't need that pressure washer next year!This afternoon the carpenter friend came round and looked at the job I'd done and praised it - which just goes to show that anyone without any DIY skill can take action to prevent lovely decking become stained, slippery and mouldy using this product.I won't use anything else - this was just too easy!!

Too early to vouch for the longevity but applies easily with a block brush and has enhanced the look and water resistance of our new decking. Better look than Ronseal Ultimate Decking Oil that left our other decking a little too yellow.Whilst it’s ‘clear’ it does alter the colour of decking darker but that’s what we wanted.Quick secure delivery.These pics are after 2 coats and this deck used about 3 litres. Less than I thought having ordered 10 litres but there’s plenty left for deck two after jet washing and cleaning the Ronseal decking area when the weather is dry.Read the instructions as the second coat needs to go on 15-30 mins later and not when the first is dry.

I purchased this for some newly installed decking boards, I had a look and saw this was rated quite highly so ordered a 5L tin of the clear oil, delivery was quite prompt, packaged very well.Upon using this clear stain, it does darken the wood but I actually like how it has gone, I like the fact you can put another coat on after 15 minutes although I did not do this, I covered the area of the decking and left it overnight and then did a second coat the next day, it is very easy to apply and you do not need to use a lot especially if you do not want drips to form and dry as this product does dry quicker than other oils I have used which I assume is why it can be recoated after 15 minutes.The area where my decking is has the sun on it all day so time will tell on how it does, overall I am very happy with the product and will be recommending this to friends and family for their gardens too =)

First time I have used this product. Easy to apply and gave the decking a nice light color. Unsure about the water resistance, due lack of rain. Durability at this stage is unknown but will update this rating, in due course.

I have used this a couple of times now and it seems good stuff. The colour is darker than expected and maintained until next year. Unlike some other types I have tried and it is cheaper.

Very good and easy to use.

We used this when our balcony with decking on was first built some years ago so it needed re-doing. I pressure washed it & then had few nice sunny days which dried it & then re-oiled it..looked lovely. Also did our old gate. It really was tatty but looks like new now (photo before & after)
