They are hockey puck sized and have multiple nodes on the bottom. The alarm goes off if two of the nodes are connected by contact with water.The alarm sound is loud enough I can hear it in my basement from the first floor. And the nodes are sensitive enough that just touching them with my finger completes the circuit and sets them off. And of course placing it on a small amount of water set them off too.

I thought I was being slightly paranoid when I bought these, but it really paid off. We just bought a new house, and I got these to put under our pipes, in the low spots in our basement, and beside our air conditioner (which was coincidentally below our bathtub). It'd been there for a couple weeks when we heard a beeping from our basement right after I got out of the shower. It turns out that we had a leak in our bathtub, and it was leaking into a corner of our basement that we seldomly go into. Without this water alarm, we could have had tons of water damage. Instead, we caught the leak right away thanks to this alarm. The alarms work well and saved us tons of money, though we did have to replace a bathtub, which of course isn't the alarms fault.

When you unscrew the lid and Take the PLASTIC off of the 9 V battery...and after you hook it up to the wires,,,BE SURE to set the Battery in Vertically on its side with the "+" side facing up ( and near the wires coming out ) so that it doesn't stick up too far.....any other way and then the lid will not Screw Back on properly and tight !!

This was one of the top purchases I’ve ever made on Amazon or anywhere else! I am so grateful for them....I have a finished basement that has flooded at times due to plumbing, leaks, horrific storms, etc...its such an inexpensive item that I would gladly pay much more for...the alarm is loud; almost deafening and a bit frightening and does what it’s meant to do...it’s gone off twice ( one time being an hour ago) and thankfully we’ve been home...I originally ordered 2 sets, but am ordering a third ...I can’t recommend these alarms enough!

They were easy to install batteries on and to place by the water features of the house. Very loud alarm and it gives me some peace of mind.

What can I say, they perform their intended function well. I use one of these as a backup alarm for my sump by placing it near where the water would overflow if it failed. Well worth it!

These appear to be nice detectors, but like most detectors, i hope they never detect a leak.

The media could not be loaded.  I order 2x package of 6. 1xpackage of 6 work fine. The other package of 6. 5 work, 1 Dead On Arrival. I contactd support team and waiting for respond

This is an excellent, well-made product that's great for its purpose, the detection of water leaking onto a floor surface, with a strong alarm warning. The units are easy to place wherever needed.
