Shreds not chips
I needed chips to make chunkier soil. This is shredded at best and stays wet. Not at all what I wanted. Previous package I bought was less compact at delivery and more chunky chips. Very disappointed.

quality product for small garden or large pots
Th expandable brick of coco husk turns into a sizeable quantity of substrate that was great for my outdoor potted plants. Not an efficient way to mulch an entire yard, but a quality product with an even texture that helps retain moisture and increases aeration in the soil over a small area.

Working as expected as mulch on my potted pepper plants
Very easy to use - put it in a bin, added a quart of water, came back about 20 minutes later and it is ready to apply. Expanded at least 7x with the addition of water. Not too chunky, not too fine. Holds in moisture for my plants - the sun is brutal this time of year, so mulching is very important. Like that it is all natural. I also like the vibrant color! Little expensive for the amount you get.

Easy to use
Just add water will expand over twice the volume when dry. It will retain water very well. But watch out for over watering.

Expensive but Convenient Mulch
I normally purchase bags of mulch but was intrigued by this brick of coco husk chips. Instructions on the brick's packaging are clear; just add one quart of water to the unwrapped chips, which will expand to produce 7 qts of material. One brick of the rehydrated coco husk pieces is enough to mulch almost all of my outdoor potted plants sufficiently. The husks allows good drainage but also keep moisture in the pots longer, particularly on hot, sunny days, reducing the frequency with which I need to water. At the end of the growing season, I will just leave the husks to decay naturally and amend the soil in my larger pots. This product definitely is more expensive than pine bark, although buying in the larger quantities offered is more cost-effective...and it's a good solution for apartment dwellers who don't have a lot of storage space for gardening materials.

Handy
The coco chips block expanded quickly when put into water. After letting it soak, it broke up easily and I used it as mulch in my raised garden bed. If you were storing these before using, the small size of the compacted brick would be a definite advantage.
