Q: Can i use 4 conductor shielded, as left and right speaker wires together? 1 wire going to output of amp would look neater.

My understanding is the shielding is to protect the set of 4 wires from external noise, not from noise within the 4 wires. Therefore, you could use the 4 wires (2 per speaker) however you could get cross signal interference. If you are concerned with the cross channel noise, then shielded 2 wire is likely a better choice.
