Victoria: With Other Poems

The poems are excellent and well chosen. However this is one of the oddest books as it has no page numbers! Neither on the pages or the index or table of contents. I've had to earmark favourite poems as there is no other way to quickly recall them.

Ralp Waldo Emerson provides great fuel for intellectual stimulation. Personally, I often struggle with poetry and prefer poetry that is fairly straight forward. However, I continually try to push my limits in order to exercise and hopefully strengthen my intellect. But I need to strike a balance in that effort. If poetry is too opaque and abstruse, I gain very little in the effort of reading it. Mr. Emeraon strikes that balance for me. I can enjoy working through his poetry, but I do need to work at it.I am like other people, in that I enjoy holding an actual book in my hands. However, the fact that I am able to download his work on to my IPad for free represents an unbeatable value. I feel as though I have a free lending library at my fingertips. Thank You!...

This excellent and comprehensive 1904 edition of Emerson's poems permits the reader to appreciate Emerson's belief that line lengths,rhythms,phrases are determined by breath.This ebook includes a helpful preface and biographical sketch by Edward Emerson and an index of titles at the end of the book.The only downside being the lack of a navigatable contents but this is easily offset by using the excellent kindle search facilty with the aforementioned title index at the end of this ebook.Well worthy of a download to the poetry aficionado's kindle.

We purchased this book, and "Moon Lore", and several other books of poems/poetry. For me, it has surely been a worthwhile investment! Many times when I've been in tense situations, remembering the words and concepts,of some of my favorite poems has helped keep me more calm and situationally aware. As some of histories more famous leaders have been poets or quoted poetry, I feel that at least a blushing acquaintance with it is good for you. Give it a try!

I enjoy reading Ralph Waldo Emerson's poetry but gave this book a 3-star rating based on the arrangement of the poems; e.g., the very first poem is entitled, Good-Bye, in which he summarizes his past life and preparation for death. It's a good poem but would be more effective as the last poem to be read, not the first. Also, I would have appreciated a Table of Contents with the names of each poem along with the year they were written.
