A solid giggable guitar
I put a lot of thought into what I wanted, before I purchased this guitar so have have very little to say against it. I've had decades to cultivate my personal preferences about guitars and this fit the bill for me.Pros: I like the fact that it doesn't have a thin veneer with glue under it.I like that it is made of mahogany body (mine is a 3 piece) and neck with a rosewood fingerboard. I prefer the solid mahogany to a maple cap anyway, and I love a rosewood board. Incidently, the black beauties from Kalamazoo were all mahogany with ebony boards. I think they were this scale length as well if I remember correctly.I love the shorter scale length, it's easier on arthritic hands. Also, bridge placement even on the longer scale Prs guitars puts the neck beneath you rather than out to the side. It makes reaching even the first few frets easy. That's something I love about Prs and Ernie Ball guitars. You really notice it after playing a telecaster or an sg. But I even feel the difference between gibson/epiphone products and this guitar. Very welcome enhancement to an otherwise traditional styled guitar.I love the pattern vintage neck. It reminds me of my favorite necks from other companies like the 59 round back Gibsons and the 60s fat c Fenders. I love that Prs is adding this to the se lines while other companies take these necks away from their more affordable lines and make you pay a custom shop premium to get them. To be fair, Epiphone has always offered the 50s neck on some of their models, but some other companies have removed the medium necks from all but their most expensive models... something I've been known to complain about in the past.I love the neck heel shape and the comfort cuts on the horn and tummy. It's solid feeling without being insanely heavy on your shoulder like some guitars I've owned.I've compared the pickups to my usa burstbuckers in my ultra iii epiphone and my vintage paf style pickups in my epi custom. The burstbuckers are slightly hotter than pafs. The 58/15 lt s are slightly hotter than the burstbuckers, but they are all three voiced almost identically.Cons: I hate coil splits on humbuckers. I understand companies want to add versatility to the instrument, but if I want a single coil sound I'll grab a single coil guitar. The plastic tuner buttons do not inspire confidence.Overall, I love this guitar. I did lots of comparison shopping looking for the features I wanted and this I what fit my needs best in a "singlecut" style humbucker guitar. I'm quite impressed with the fit and finish. It's a solid guitar. If I were still gigging I wouldn't hesitate to take this on the road. Paul and his team have made me a happy man.
