Walking on the Amalfi Coast: Ischia, Capri, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi

Best friend for hiking this area!
Thoroughly researched with online updates. Great regional and individual diagrams, able to link several trails together. Descriptions show vertical gain and loss. Author gives great tips on transport to/from trailheads: some local annual/seasonal variations, so ask around. Suggestions on route direction, spot on (ie indicated direction is more down than up).

we got lost
my son and I did one hike from Amalfi, preparing to get back to the town. However, there were no signs along the trail, we asked few people that we met on the trail for directions. at some point we had to walk on a trail that was not clear from plants and big branches of trees. we also did some rock climbing that we didn't anticipated. We finished our trail back to Amalfi town from the point that we had to start. I think the book is not update and also we hike in the US that have color signs on every trail . With that said, the view from the mountains above Amelfi is amazing and we were happy we did it. It was a good work out .

I recommend this for sure
My husband does better with books than trip advisor. This shows a lot of trails to walk.

Not good for Path of the Gods
We only got to try one hike, for the Path of the Gods. The directions were hopelessly incorrect. Even after we found the path later, with the help of some locals, we couldn't figure out her instructions. There are good guides available locally at the tourist shop. If you do this hike, get one of those instead.

Off the beaten path
Includes less popular walks that are not shown anywhere else in English. Sometimes the directions are a bit tricky, but that's to be expected when you are taking a route that is off the beaten path and isn't shared with thousands of tourists. Even on Capri in August, I was able to find spectacular routes that were completely tranquil thanks to this guide. I recommend buying a hiking map to supplement this guide when you arrive in Italy, specifically one from Cart&Guide.

Easy to follow guide
We had to book a very last minute walking holiday to the Amalfi Coast, after being let down on an all-arranged package we'd ordered from a specialist company. Booking hotel and flights was fairly easily but with no maps or walking route descriptions, we were missing a vital factor and this book filled the void perfectly.

Don't trust it
Found it was useless, in fact was dangerous to rely on. For one walk it made out it was a moderate incline, but it was in fact a full on scramble on an exposed rocky outcrop. Better to get local information and map.

Don't go without this little book!
Lovely walks with clear dierctions, the book helped make our holiday great. Only one little point .....the grading.....1-3. Sholud I think be 1-4 as a couple of the 2/3 graded walks were quite tough, it seemed to be more like just 3. We didn't have time to actuallly do a greaded 3, feel they were quite challening tho'. This didn't spoil our enjoyment however. (We are used to walking holidays)
