Start Where You Are: Life Lessons in Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be

Normally I leave review only when it is bad, probably like most regular people, because I get lazy and forget to write one, when it is a good one. But this time I almost didn't have to force myself to take time and write this.I gave 5 stars, although the book does have some flaws.Some of the stories are hard to understand, may be it is due to me being a foreigner, or english being my second language, or the language it is written in is not simple enough for everybody to understand, or some other reasons, but I do listen to every CD of this book few times to get the most out of it.As for pros, there are many of those for me.I have learnt about myself, understood myself and got a wide perspective on what is going on in my life more in two days of listening to the book, than I did in the last one and half years talking to people around me, my mom, and doing research on the internet.Ability to word the problem, to give it a name, and realization of the fact that I am not alone gave me a jump start to my healing and growing into someone who I was meant to be all along. I don't know yet who and where I will be, but now I know what I need to work towards to and this new goal gives me peace and brings back my old me, a persistent, intelligent and strong person, a child of God.I regret, I havent' gotten this CD at least 6 months ago, when I was broken into smallest pieces ever, when emotionally and mentally I was lower than the dust under my feet. But there is a reason for everything. I hope later in life this experience will become a valuable one for me.Anyways, you have to be ready for this book. Going back to the cons, it is not written (CD in my case) in a way, where everything said in it just goes straight to your brain. But I do recommend it to people, who is lost in life, financially, emotionally, mentally or just feel stuck in somewhere he does not belong.

I really enjoyed this book and it really helped me through some tough times. I had also read Pursuit of Happyness a while back and his writing style is no-holds-barred honest and of so much depth. My favorite takeaway from this book (there were many!) was his explanation on the fact that the Calvary ain't coming. And that's a beautiful thing to realize. Thanks Chris!! Love your books

Chris is a very inspiring person. He is living proof you can start wherever you are and turn things around. Recommend this book to anyone wanting to change their circumstances and life.

I'm sort of torn between liking and not liking this book. I was thinking that the book was about how to prepare for or get past roadblocks in your life to accomplish your goals. Instead, if was sort of about the author's life struggle and how he overcame them. It was a good read, however, not what I expected!!!!!

I was a big fan of the movie "Pursuit of Happyness" to begin with. I also like reading self help books and have many of them. This book is not only a wonderful true story full of insight and lessons, its also a fantastic read. Chris Gardner has a great talent for writing as well as making money. The book is extremely motivational and his stories will remind you of what any one of us can attain, not just materialistically, but on an inner level. this is a book i will read over and over. I have already recommended it to at least 5 people. Cant go wrong with this one.

Good book that gives you some life lessons for day to day use. Nothing of extraordinary like is first new book, but good nevertheless.

This book really helped me to get things in order in my life.I showed me simple ways to realise I had enough information to get where I needed or wanted to.An original self- help book from a man who really came up from the bottom. Compassionate and friendly.Chris Gardner is clear and concise. The book has some lengthy areas but it reinforces your thought patterns into action.Go get it!

I chose this book after watching the film 'The Pursuit of Happyness' with Will Smith. I am re-reading it as there is so much wisdom here. I love the motivating and inspiring style and have taken on many of the life lessons he points out. I lost my job a couple of months ago and have been living in fear. This book has motivated me to take action and be self reliant.

This is a very readable book and there are several enlightning observations that hit you right between the eyes and make you think. Unfortunately, these nuggets of gold are surrounded by lots of stories and, for me, that detracts from the very useful message of the book. If you want to turn your life around, no matter where you find yourself now, this will give you a good poke in the right direction.

An inspirational read

Having watched the Will Smith film The Pursuit of Happyness, I found this amazing second book by Chris Gardener. This is an essential read for anyone seeking some kind of guidance and assurances for moving forward with their life. Full of fantastic business tips, I would recommend this to anyone.
