The kit includes instructions and 5 splices in a small plastic case. You will need some basic fiber tools, such as a fiber cleaver and fiber stripper, and have some idea on how to use them.The directions go through the steps, however they don’t tell you how long the bare fiber needs to extend past the tight buffer. They oddly assume you have a measuring jig that is already set correctly. I did some research and found that cleaving it so one ends up with 12mm of exposed glass is the correct amount.The device is easy to close after the fibers are installed. Using a VFL, there is very little light leakage at the splice and bright light comes out the other end of the fiber. I saw a loss of 0.1dbm after first zeroing out an optical power meter meter using a factory fiber cable, then replacing it with the fiber that contains the splice.Each connector can be reused at least a few times, so if you don’t get a good splice the first time, it’s not a problem to try again.
