Amazing story
I am truly enjoying this series. Looking forward to the fourth book. Fun, world building and character development. A wonderful space opera.

Very repetitive from first novel
This book rehashes, often almost word for word, the story from the first novel. It was tedious. This story just wasn't super well written. With that said, it's a good plot and I still enjoyed the book. I wanted more of the character's actual personalities.

Well written & immersive!
This is the second book in this series & it's just as good as the first. Loved the continuation & further development of the characters, & and I'm definitely looking forward to book #3.Additionally, the titles of these books are extremely & intelligently crafted. That alone was enough to convince me to read them because honestly, if that much thought was put into the titles, then in my opinion that's indicative of the writer's skills at weaving a story. These books do not disappoint given that sentiment!

One of the my favorite series!
I loved the first book in this series but I actually ended up loving this one even more. Vesper and Kyrion are separated because of the emotions involved with not knowing whether their bond is pushing them together or whether it’s their true feelings. Vesper is busy running her company and being a Regal Lady and Kyrion is with the Arrows but when Vesper is kidnapped by the Techwave he can feel her pain and tries to get to her. Vesper learns more about the Techwave and how they plan to use one of her inventions as a devastating weapon. Vesper also finds out just how evil her mother is. They end up on one of the Erzton planets helping Lady Asterin fight off Techwave and later have a major life threatening run in with lord Callus. I love this series because it really is a mix of so many things I enjoy reading, sci-fi, romance, action, steam punk, space opera, just a little bit of everything and Ms. Estep makes it all work together perfectly. There is a snippet at the end featuring one of my favorites, Zane, the Arrow that has a surprising part in this series and it made me really look forward to the next book that features more about him and Lady Asterin who is also a favorite. As usual I’m really looking forward to the next book.

fun
I am enjoying this series so far, though the villain is a bit over the top. Regardless, it’s still a fun little jaunt.

Great story
Lots of action and intrigue. The space opera continues as Vesper and Kyrion struggle with their truebond and how to eliminate the cruel and power hungry leader of the Imperium. Meanwhile, the terrorist Techwave pose a real threat to not only Vesper but to everyone in their path.

Zero-Calorie read. Won't add anything to your life, but also won't hurt to read.
Just like the first book, this was mid. I'm more reading these because they require zero thought and are utterly predictable. Biggest surprise was about Liesl's actions throughout Vespers life. Though that got very little attention. Hopefully in book 4 this will return.Significantly less development in plot/characters in this book than book one. This could largely be because there were too many ideas thrown into one short book and few got any really urgency/dimension. Every character is flat and says their motivations and feelings without showing them.I was over the will they/won't they in book 1, it's exhausting to sit through another and a tired plot device. The first 1/4 of the second, fine, they are on different planets. The rest? 🙄Wish they'd have wrapped up their "bond" in book 1, and been the secondary leads to another couple in book 2. I'm looking forward to a break from these two with book 3, Zanes book, though my expectations are low that it will be properly developed. The entire final scenes were a confused disappointment and the confrontation with Nerezza was weak. The dialogue by Vesper lacked impact, and the cursing was awkward. It felt like she learned a new word and kept using it. Why would you behave/speak crassly when trying to bring people to your side in essentially a political event? The politics in these books are being used at sporadic plot points, instead of the tool that a society with a class system would make them.Minor pretty peeve of mine is some of the word choice throughout this entire series. I have noticed these phrases in some of her other series too. If you have late 30s characters, maybe don't have them "scurrying" around or "gobbling" food so frequently. They are already behaving like teenagers, flouncing around and slamming doors in fits of temper and having the emotional maturity in all their relationships of a teenager, they don't need to have such exaggerated actions. It throws me out of the storyline every single time. After writing this, I realize that I apparently do have feelings about this series. Mostly frustration of how the ball was dropped by the author and editors on what could have been an interesting book.Overall, as long as you aren't expecting a masterpiece, this is an adequate read.

urban fantasy
Vesper et Kyrion ont une longue route pleine d’embûches devant eux avant d’accepter le lien qui les unit. Décidément J. Ester est dans le top 5 des meilleurs auteurs dans ce type de littérature avec la création d’univers singuliers. J’adore.

Brilliant characters in an impossible position.
In this galaxy The ruling classes all have psychic abilities, empathy, telekinesis, telemetry etc. The galaxy is ruled by a despot, Blackwell, who gains power from siphoning off this physical ability from bonded pairs, as such he is the strongest and most deadly psychic in the galaxy. Kyrion is the head of his elite fighters (known as Arrows) and he knows just how deadly Blackwell is as he was responsible for the prolonged torture and deaths of his parents, by constantly siphoning off their power till one day he took too much and killed Kyrion's mother. Vasper Quill is an engineer quietly beavering away in her menial job making toasters, brewmakers and other household appliances but secretly she longs to.do.something to make a difference. The galaxy is at war and has been for a long time, the enemy known as the Techwavers (terrible name I know) are destroying while planets and millions of people. So, Deeper keeps working on developing new weapons, in her own time but her employers never find any of her designs worthy of production. Vesper is alone in the world and has been since she was eight when her mother abandoned her as she didn't have any obvious psychic ability. These are the two main characters, two lost souls who have seen the worst there is but their lives cross when Vesper ends up framed for a crime and conscripted into the army fighting the Techwavers. Casper has no chance of surviving the first battle, she and the.others like her are just cannon fodder meant to distract while the real fighters (like the Arrows) destroy the enemy. But Vesper doesn't immediately die and more she rescued Kyrion from certain death. So begins the story of one couple will fight against a despot who wants their power and an army that wants to destroy the galaxy...........a pretty big order. The world they live in is very much every man for himself but along the way they do find friends willing to help ............................This is book two in the story which began with Only Bad Options which you should read first in order to understand this one fully.

Interesting world, light reading, keeps you entertained but not obsessively so.
The first book left enough questions that I wanted to read the 2nd book. It's light reading with reassuringly recognisable plot lines that make it flow well enough while developing the characters just enough to make you think they're different & interesting. Kind of cool powers and a more or less happy ending that again, leads on to the next book which I will probably read. Easy to read for pleasure, doesn't distract you too much from the responsibilities in your life. Takes your enjoyable attention when you want to give it, not as a time-sucker when you should be doing something other than reading! ;-) (which is a vice of mine)
