I had a plastic backflow blocker unit that was on the garage water tap that would spray water after each tap shut off since I bought house several years ago. Being plastic, there was no other way of removing it to replace it short of taking a dremel to it CAREFULLY to not cut/damage the tap's threads. Once the old one was off, installation of the new one was easy - having the teflon tape and new washers was a bonus. Now, no more random spraying at each valve shutoff.My strong advice: do NOT install the locking screw - just tighten the unit on firmly with the teflon tape provided for a good seal. These things do fail eventually if only because of water deposits gumming the seal, and it will be hell to dremel through a failed but locked-on brass unit.

The brass quality, and finish, functionality seems all good.I don't personally like these devices and removed them years ago (until our city is now requiring them) because they allow water to vent/spray when you are sometimes standing near the faucet after you turn off the water valve to the garden hose. Even though the spray is directed toward the house and away from you you will feel the splash from some of the spray, though, these are slightly (slightly) better than the past bib valves that came with our home when new.Another reason I bought these over others was because of their quality silicone O-Seals (vs. the traditional rubber O-Seals which get hard/leak after a couple of years) that came with this item.To install it, you make sure to push one of the O-Seals into it and simply screw it on to your outside faucet - and, then tighten the set screw with pliers so that it won't come loose when you add/remove your garden hose to/from it in the Spring/Fall.

Easy to put on. Works like they should. Replaced my old ones that were spraying water all over the place.

I tried local hardware suppliers to no successful resolution. They couldn't tell me what the thread size from the spigot to the (end use hose) was. This product worked in the most effort less way, simply by removing the archaic antiquate system, the builders used in 2001 in Calgary, AB. This product the real fix. Do not waste time with H.D or C.T. or???

The product is sturdy. The install process is simple, but the "screw in place" theory isn't very productive, screw doesn't increase effectiveness.
