No panacea.
I bought two books for line learning, and this book is okay, but if you are looking for a magic bullet, as I had for years, forget it (like the lines). All these systems, it seems to me, employ an unjustifiably intricate memory linking process that is not natural unless you started using these systems as a child. It is still just easier for me to re-read until natural, the way Anthony Hopkins does. You might also use an app like Line Learner, which I found useful and works for me.

Beating your head against the wall with traditional read and remembering through repetition? This book WILL help!
Mr. Kelner's book was just what I needed at exactly the time I needed it. I was having a rough patch with my current script memorization. I had had a 16 hour day of trying to get lines that were just not sinking in. I read the whole book and did the exercises and was off book for three long pages of text in only a few hours. It is great how this builds on each previous exercise. I'd been using memory palaces before, but the other situations I'd been learning didn't teach how to apply it to scripts and all of these exercises are practical and relevant to the actor. Even non-actors would find relevant material in this book to help them with memory related tasks.

Interesting system, may work for some... not really for me.
The main problem i have with the method outlined in this book is that it requires you to create and remember a lot more than you're actually trying to learn in order to remember what you're trying to learn. I suppose if you really can't get some things to stick in memory this can be a fun way of solidifying it for a long time, and it will do that. Another issue is that it seems to be more effective with learning lists of things, i had a really hard time trying to apply it to dialogue and monologue as outlined in the book... Like i said, it requires you to memorize something else in order to memorize what you're trying to memorize in the first place. A decent mnemonic system but just not for me.To be fair to the author, he does give instructions on how to contact him if you are having trouble with the system. If you think it can work for you and you're just hung up on something about it there's a way to try and fix that.

Solid, applicable tool written by a practitioner not merely theoretical
Kelner has clearly become an expert in the "art" of memorization in creative endeavors as well as corporate contexts. It is also apparent that he speaks from the point of view of someone who truly understands the craft of acting as someone who is both classically and method trained. His writing style is approachable and enjoyable and filled with great practical approaches and tips to accomplish the dirty work making the author's words your own.

Great for grocery lists but not for actors
There are many different types of acting techniques out there. Some will have you recalling old emotions, others will emphasize the present moment but none of them will tell you to think about the wackiest images possible that are totally unrelated to the scene just so you can memorize your lines. It works for memorizing grocery lists but would be terrible for an actor going for realism in their scenes.
