dark & sad continuation of book 1
I don’t know what I was expecting. The first book was dark as was this one. It was interesting to hear how they actually closed the family case and a little more back story. If you the first book you will enjoy this one. I found it hard to finish because of how awful some of the characters were. Warning this book has stories of rape worse than the first book did. It just really hurt to read about these poor women. For me it was a preference issue. It just was sad and dark for me to read. It wasn’t that the story wasn’t good, it’s a dark story for sure. I had such a hard time getting though it I had to download the audiobook since reading through the kindle version was getting hard.

great sequel!
I felt The Family Upstairs was a great book but the end was both very good and somewhat disappointing. The Family Remains took care of that problem! We see what happened to the children and the impact their younger years had on their adult lives. I thought this book started off a little slow, but I was trying to remember what happened in the first book, which may have been the reason I thought it was slow. I read the last half of this book in a day! I would recommend reading The Family Upstairs first as it will help this book make sense. Lisa Jewell is an amazing storyteller. Reading both books will take you on an incredible journey!

Worth the read if you liked the first book
I didn't think it was nearly as catching as the first but since I had enjoyed that so much there was no way I wasnt going to read this as well.

A CONVOLUTED TALE...
Early one morning on the shore of the Thames, DCI Samuel Owusu is called to the scene of a gruesome discovery. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago.Rachel Rimmer has also received a shock—news that her husband, Michael, has been found dead in the cellar of his house in France. All signs point to an intruder, and the French police need her to come urgently to answer questions about Michael and his past that she very much doesn’t want to answer. After fleeing London thirty years ago in the wake of a horrific tragedy, Lucy Lamb is finally coming home. While she settles in with her children and is just about to purchase their first-ever house, her brother takes off to find the boy from their shared past whose memory haunts their present. As they all race to discover answers to these convoluted mysteries, they will come to find that they’re connected in ways they could have never imagined. In this masterful standalone sequel to her haunting New York Times bestseller, The Family Upstairs, Lisa Jewell proves she is writing at the height of her powers with another jaw-dropping, intricate, and affecting novel about the lengths we will go to protect the ones we love and uncover the truth. My Thoughts:As we begin the journey with The Family Remains, we are introduced to characters that are connected to events from the past, and in some ways, their lives have intersected. At first, we meet Henry Lamb whose past centered around an old house where terrible things happened. We slowly meet other characters connected to him, most of whom are apparently hiding things. And Henry is diligently searching for someone from his distant past, who keeps eluding him.The story also begins with the discovery of a body in the Thames, which seems to be tied to that same old house. How will all of these characters finally come together, and what do their secrets tell us? How did their lives go wrong, and how did they all manage to keep their pasts at bay? The stories unfold in different timelines, and in many ways, they were convoluted, but as we learn more about how the characters are connected, we are intrigued. A sometimes confusing story, this one earned 4 stars.

I couldn't put the book down!
It's definitely a page turner. I love how each chapter has narration from a different character. It has your mind working to piece together the story as you go. Jewell is brilliant! This is the 3rd book I've read of hers. I'm going to find my next now!

Enjoyed this sequel!
I had not enjoyed the first book, so I had reservations picking up this title. I was definitely surprised at how much I enjoyed these characters SO MUCH MORE in this story! I felt like it gave me the back history of each person, which was lacking in the first book. Overall, I’m glad I read it and it wrapped up the family’s story nicely!

Dark and Darker
There are two families in this story, connected by abuse. The story shifts between them continually, and yet it's not confusing. Instead, we find out more about the connections with each chapter. This is a mystery, and it has a satisfying ending.

excelente thriller
Personagens aparentemente não relacionadas vão mostrando ao longo da narrativa pontos de conexão. Atitudes inesperadas de alguns personagens conduzem a um final interessante.
