Clean Brake Pads Before Buying a New Set.
These brakes are simply amazing. I ride a recumbent trike (catrike 700 for those of you who are interested) and the trike is equipped with avid bb7 disks. I bought the new pads (2 sets, one for each front wheel) thinking I would need to replace mine soon. However, my pads were still fine after about 5000 miles of riding. The directions provided with my disk brakes suggests that in order to return brake performance, take the pads out of the calipers and wash them in soapy water. I used dish soap. I also used a brush and scrubbed the calipers with the soap. The disks also can be cleaned, depending on how bad the varnish is. On mine, a few hard stops tends to remove the varnish, so I didn't have to worry so much. All in all, my brakes went from 50% performance back to 90% performance because of the cleaning. These pads seem to last a long time and I guess I have an extra set if the day comes where the pads wear down to their limit.

Finicky Install
Really like my Avid mechanical brakes, but my first time to change out the pads--having just done my Deore XT mountain bike brakes just a few weeks ago--these are not very quick or easy for a first try. The XT took less than 10 minutes for both brakes, and each of these took 15+ since there's more fumbling with positioning and set-in to get them seated correctly. Setting the pads was simple enough and they work fantastically, but install was a bit more difficult than I would have thought.

Expensive for one wheel.
These are like 20 for one wheel. The brand was SRAM so they are good and they don't squeal like the stock cheapies.

What an improvement
Replaced the brake pads on my Ice Recumbent trike... What a nice improvement...No more squeaking, they snapped in place easily... They should last a long time..

so far so good
work fine for me, no unwanted noises so far. only have a few hundred miles on these so no data yet on longevity. unfortunately in the past i've only gotten around 1600 miles off an $18 pair of these pads, whereas i have become accustomed in the more distant past to getting twice or 3 times that mileage out of a set of $10 rim caliper pads on the same bike under the same riding conditions (and no appreciable shortening of rim life with rim brakes, so i don't see that as a cost factor.) not really a cost effective improvement over rim brakes, but adding this disc brake to a tandem *is* a safety improvement.

Grippy with no noticeable fade
These are very grippy pads with minimal bed-in required, although a proper bed-in really improved them. Worked fabulously until drenched with fork oil. If you like the simplicity of mechanical brakes, these are great pads. You can't go wrong with them. Some people have had hit-and-miss experiences within the same Avid product lines. However, I have yet to notice this in my casual riding. Maybe it's because I am, as a few riders have pointed out, not a "real" mountain biker...however, these brake pads are strong and more than sufficient for my needs. They last a really long time too (with the exception of when drenched in fork oil).

Sintered or Organic?
Amazon description is not particularly helpful. When I ordered the colour "bronze" what I actually got were the sintered version. It seems that standard organic and sintered may have the same bronze backing? Anyway I was looking for the organic version but will give these a go ( it is winter now after all).

SRAM quality.
Small initial bed in period. Google how to do it properly. I would recommend realignment of the caliper at the same time to solve and resonance issues. Always works for me, plenty of YT videos on how to do this. Quality you can trust from SRAM.

Superb Quality
Easily replaced existing Avid sintered pads. Well worth paying for branded quality. Bedded in on BB7 in 30 miles. Looking forward to another years wear. Long lasting. loads of bite.

Bike Brake
Use on my commuter road bike, generally good braking in the bb7 calliper. tend to get just over 7,000 km on the front and 10,000 km on the rear.

Five Stars
Brilliant brake pads. They worked very well and replaced a set that someone had contaminated on my bike.
