Work of art
I collect tenmoku cups, and this one looks better than the photo and is so beautiful. The color is different than the typical tenmoku cup, which provides nice contrast when they are displayed together.

Truly gorgeous and an exceptional value
There is good news and bad news with this Dao Bei. Read all the way to the end.First the bad news. I ordered this from Jiumei (same seller) on another page, or at least I think it was a different page. In any case, I ordered it on April 7 and it was shipped direct from China. It did not arrive until April 24. When I got it, it had no box at all, just a soft plastic outer wrap and a bunch of bubble wrap inside. As you've probably guessed, it was just a pile of shards. Really beautiful shards - more than the money, I hated to see such a beautiful piece broken. This is where we start the good news. I contacted the seller, and not only did they immediately issue me a full refund, they pointed me to this page and pointed out that it was shipped from/by Amazon. At the price, the obvious beauty and quality of the dao bei even in shards, and my faith in Amazon shipping speed and protection, I decided to try again. I'm very glad I did. I ordered it on April 28 (late Sunday night) and it arrived on May 2 (midday Thursday) in a well-packaged box. It is beautiful. I didn't include any pictures with the review because honestly, I don't think I can take pictures that show it off as well as the ones here. It is more beautiful than even their pictures show, with the beautiful pattern and the shiny particles (I can't call it glitter) and the way they condense into a shining ring at the top. Just stunning, especially when well lit. I will say that the pattern is much more "speckle" and less "scale". I do have a cup from another supplier in the same pattern (blue dragonscale), except that one is much more obviously a scale pattern rather than a speckle. I also noticed on very close inspection that a part of the rim on the dao bei is missing some of the sparkly glaze. I have to say the cup is a higher quality, which is good since it cost more than twice as much. In any case, in spite of the delay for the first one and having it arrive broken, I think the seller did a good job of rescuing their reputation and fixing the situation the best they could, and for the price, this is an excellent buy of some truly lovely teaware even if it isn't a perfect example of the pattern and style.

Understated, Classic & Timeless
Some things I like foo-foo.....others not so much. For my first ceremonial tea cup, I wanted clean crisp lines that could be truly appreciated for the sheer simplicity. I'd give this 100 stars if able, and I don't heap too much praise unless truly deserved! The good news is that my future son-in-law got his interests piqued upon seeing how beautiful this was.....Guess what he's getting for his birthday?
