Keep in mind, this is strictly for pain relief and also to relieve the dryness and stiffness aspect of cold sores. Basically when your lip or area around it is feeling super stiff and chapped, it will make the skin supple again. It'll also relieve any tingles or burning. But the actual Abreva cold sore treatment (Docosanol Cream) is what works to actually treat/get rid of the sores themselves. So you need both. I usually place a thin layer of this stuff first, followed by the Abreva cream, allow it to dry (about 30 to 45 minutes) then add a couple cold sore patches to the treated areas to further protect while it heals. I also do red light treatments once in the mornings and once in the evenings, 5 minutes at a time each time.If you wanted to, you could also use just this and then the cold sore patches too. It depends on how effective it is for you. The patches themselves have healing formula in them too. So if you don't like the cream, that is an option. I've found that using the cream plus the patches worked better for me, tho. Ultimately you have to find what works for you. But this tube is specifically for pain relief only, it will not actually treat the sores, so you will need a second form of medicine, whether prescribed or over the counter, to treat the problem itself.So it works well for what it was meant for. Hopefully after this episode, won't need it again for a long time. This was my first episode after nearly 2yrs of not having any. It sucked, but I got through it. Good luck!

I didn’t realize this was JUST for pain relief and wasn’t also a cold sore treatment. I thought it was regular Abreva with additional pain relief. Just be aware of that before you buy it.

WINTER CHAP SEASON and I licked my lips to dryness, then felt an upcoming blister. Ordered from Amazon, arrived overnight. I applied it before going to bed. And in the morning, the benefit was clear. No blister and all dried up within a day or so with just a couple more applications. It's clear, dries clear so the help is invisible. (It's So good that where it found its way to less chapped areas on my bottom lip, it dried that area too). Recommend highly. Bought it thanks for other reviews here. EXCELLENT PRODUCT. The size I bought was so tiny for $12.00 but I have plenty left. Crazy good.

Really effective for cold sore if used immediately when the sensation starts. It’s got a numbing aspect to it that takes away all pain and I have used it about 3 times a day when major eruption occurred. Be cautious however only one little drop is necessary as if more your lips can become numb beyond the eruption. Let it dry before applying and lip moisturizer as well otherwise it spreads to all parts of lips. It creates a barrier of comfort as well when the open eruption happens No raw feeling experienced
