It is mainly assembled, but you have to attach the lid, which arrives unfixed, with the supplied screws. It is not too difficult.

What are the internal dimensions please?

Never measured them all I can say is the box tapers to the bottom, that is the bottom is smaller than the top but I manage to get all my electric power tools in it now used to use it for toys I have never had a problem with the internal space.

Is the base of this chest strong enough to hold books and paperwork?

Yes, it’s very sturdy. But still not sure if there are huge numbers of heavy items it will be resistant? I put my duvet covers, bed sheets, pillow cases and very stylish organiser it is.

Can this chest be used as a bench???
