Interesting read
This is an easy to read discussion on Norse paganism offers interesting insights into the traditions of these people. The book does point out that many of the written works regarding this era where written hundreds of years after Christianity had taken over the country so there may be nuances about that time that have been lost. The reason is that prior to Christianity, most stories and myths were handed down via an oral tradition. One family member would tell the next generation. One leader would tell his followers the story and so on for centuries. The book ends with a discussion of how Norse paganism has changed with the times and is practiced today.

Wondered about their views of slavery
I purchased Norse Paganism due to my interest in the topic of the renown slave trade of the Vikings in the Middle Ages. However, I found little on that topic in Larsen’s book although enjoyed learning about ᛟ Othala. The author writes that ᛟ Othala is the last rune and is pronounced “oh-thall-ah.” Its literal translation is an ancestral lot or homeland and psychologically, it means ancestral spiritual power. Readers learn that “If Othala shows up in a reading, it means productive interaction, group order, freedom, group prosperity, or home.” However, “If it shows up reversed, it means genocide, xenophobia, racism, homelessness, slavery, poverty, totalitarianism, or lack of customary order.”So, though widespread, perhaps abducting people as slaves from many lands the Vikings travelled to was not considered on the “good” side in the Norse paganism belief system. Overall, an interesting and comprehensive introduction to and reference book on Norse Paganism.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Vikings and More!
As a person with primarily a Norwegian heritage, I have always been interested in the Vikings and all the "rape and pillaging" stories I heard about them. This book is a historical masterpiece on the REAL Vikings. Giants vs. Gods; Good killings vs. Bad killings; Magic; Valhalla; and much detailed information about the Norse runes. Then there are their Nine Virtues--perseverance, fidelity, self-reliance, honor, truth, courage, industriousness, hospitality, and discipline--far from my preconceived notions about them. If you have an interest in the Vikings, their belief system, and the many Gods, giants, and mythical figures, this is a must-read.

Completely fascinating!
My fascination of Nordic cultures and traditions stems from (don't laugh) watching the Vikings series on Netflix and subsequent Norse documentaries on Youtube. I hadn't read a publication on them until this one. This really was a brilliant book as it filled in all the blanks which I was missing from my odd bits of information from youtube and the Vikings. A ton of detail was included about everything from marriage, hunting, ceremonies, war and much more.

This is a great intro to learning about Norse Paganism. I feel like it touched on a lot of bases to help you get the ball rolling. If you're like me and just starting out, I'd definitely recommend this. It also has a good bit of info on runes you can come back and refer to if you need. Easy to read too which is important. Great job Sebastian.

Everything Norse
I love reading everything I can get on Norse Mythology. I find that the subject is hit or miss with most books, but this one HIT! I really love the way it is written and especially the chapter on magic. The comparisons to old Norse paganism practices vs today's practices were a great approach to the subject.

The only book you need on Norse Paganism
From the get-go, this book has any Viking lover hooked. What I liked most about it is the detail and structure of how the author explains how the mythology started right through to its end. I also learned a lot of new things about the Gods of the Norse that isn't apparent in other books on the subject. It even has its own step-by-by guide on rune casting and every meaning of the ancient runes. Great read overall.

An Excellent Insight to Norse Mythology
I love this book. Being a distant cousin of Vikings myself I found it immensely useful in understanding the history of Norse mythology and the practicalities of rune divination. I've been using the I-Ching for many years and found the transference both logical and practical. A must read for all pagans.

Educational and informative read
This book is very informative if you want to learn about Norse Paganism. It covers various topics; the roots, the most important gods, runes and magic, etc. I enjoyed learning about the core values of Norse Paganism - perseverance, self-reliance, hospitality, discipline, fidelity, honor, truth, and courage. Most of it makes sense even today. I also found it interesting to learn about the gods and the magic they believed in back then. Educational and informative read if you are a beginner on this topic.
