Wireshark Network Analysis (Second Edition): The Official Wireshark Certified Network Analyst Study Guide

This guide was written for an older version of wireshark and could probably use an update. Having said that it's 80% still relevant to use of the tool, and worth reading if you work with Wireshark often (or if you don't, but should).One gripe is that there is too much emphasis on protocols that this author is likely personally familiar with, as opposed to ones she is not. Wireshark enjoys heavy usage within the telecom industry, for example, and this author clearly doesn't have that background or even mention a lot of the tools Wireshark has for Telecom-related use-cases.

This is a very good book and I recommend it despite its age. The fundamemtals, testimonies, and real troubleshooting scenarios really immerse you into deepening your networking knowledge

The best book on the market for learning Wireshark. This book teaches you everything you need to become a Wireshark Guru. It provides the information to begin and understand network analysis from the ground up. You will be fully prepared to take the Certification Test, if you decide to go that route.

Even though this is a long book, it a great book and contains a lot of information.The book starts off with understanding the WireShark application and how you can customize the application to make it easier to find out what you are looking for. After that the book jumps into basic analysis and what features Wireshark has (Follow TCP Stream, Expert Systems, Graphs, etc) then dives into the nuts and bolts of popular protocols like HTTP/FTP/DNS/ARP, and the second edition include IPv6 which is great book. This is a great example of a company keeping up with technology.I will say however, this book is not for the faint the topics are pretty advanced and the case studies go over certain scenarios however. There is also over a GB of extra information such as packet captures to compliment the book. So if you put in enough dedication you'll be able to master Wireshark.

A very in depth review for experts and novices alike this book has helped me understand the issues going on in our network. I highly recommend that any one who has to deal with networks for configurations buy this book.

The things you never knew. I know some people would say that you can find all the information in this book online, but I have been using this product for years (when it was called Ethereal) and did not know the product could call out items of concern in a trace at the push of a button. Pretty straight forward read with tutorials included. I only did one or two of the tutorials at the beginning, they are pretty basic.

This book is very dry and an overkill of information, informative nonetheless.My advice is to gain experience through practical labs via real equipment/simulators and then reinforce what you have learned with this book otherwise it will be like pulling teeth.

Sicherlich das beste zum Thema Wireshark, was man zur Zeit kaufen kann, geschrieben von Laura Chappell, DER Spezialisting im Bereich der Analyse von Netzwerkdaten. Auch jemand mit einigen Jahren Erfahrung in Wireshark/Ethereal lernt noch etwas dazu, insbesondere über die neuen Funktionen, die teilweise erst mit Version 1.8 eingeführt wurden. Zur Zeit (August 2012) ist das Buch absolut aktuell.Ein Vorteil des Buches ist, daß es auf einer Website dazu (wiresharkbook.com) über ein Gigabyte an Material (im Allgemeinen Beispielcaptures) gibt.Das Buch bereitet zwar auf eine Zertifizierung vor, ist aber auch ohne diese durchaus sinnvoll. Nicht behandelt werden nur extreme Randgebiete, wie das Schreiben eigener Dissektoren.
