Streamlight 14122 Sidewinder Aviation: Versatile & Reliable Flashlight (nonmilitary reviewer)
I recently purchased the Streamlight 14122 Sidewinder Aviation and have been impressed with its functionality and durability. Streamlight offers several versions of this light, each tailored to specific applications such as military, aviation, medical, and sportsman. These versions differ in terms of LED color offerings and configuration, but physically they are the same. It can be difficult to determine the specific color options without first consulting the company's website, where a PDF detailing the color options can be downloaded. One of the key advantages of this version is the inclusion of a green LED instead of a red LED, which can be useful for certain aviation applications. The newer models of the Sidewinder, such as the Compact II, offer the added convenience of being able to switch between a standard AA battery or the CR123A using a well-engineered spring loaded mechanism. The Sidewinder Aviation is lightweight, compact, and well-made, with a versatile clip that allows for easy attachment to clothing, belts, or head straps. I particularly like using it with the solid metal clip or the Streamlight elastic headstrap. It also features 4 intensity levels and a strobe function for all LEDs, not just the white light. In conclusion, the Streamlight 14122 Sidewinder Aviation is a great light for daily use, task lighting, or many aviation applications. I recommend it for its versatility and reliability."

Well worth the price, I use it every day
I love this things. I use it every day when taking the dog outside since we have poisonous snakes where we live. Because it can be used separately from the headband I would say it is the most useful flashlight I own.

Great light for the price!
This streamlight is a very good utility light when you need to be able to see and have the use of both hands. It is versatile and the rotating light allows for good light casting over the work area. The IR, blue, and green are cool functions as well, but will not likely be used by me. I am pleased with the variable light intensity (4 levels) for the white light. The light casts a pretty solid beam across a large room. Although this isn't the lights purpose, as a firefighter, I am using it as a backup light entering structures and using the flashing mode while working traffic accidents during low light hours. So far I am pleased with this light. For less than $50 this light has a lot of good features and appears to be well constructed. Overall, it is a good buy and worth the money.

Surefire Quality
It appeared to be made of aluminum but was a poly plastic.

Great light, but buy it new.
This is a great light. Compact, bright, and lightweight. Mine didn't come with all of the parts. The lithium battery and helmet mount that were supposed to be included were not. Mine came from Amazon warehouse deals (returned products). By the time I buy a CR123 battery and the helmet mount and wait another week for it to get here, I may as well have gone new. As I said, the light works well and preforms as it should, but I would recommend getting a new one.

Handy and simple
Good little modular flashlight, not incredibly strong like its big brother but good enough in a bind. I have it attached to my dirtbike helmet for night rides

Very adaptable. Not super bright.
I like the different ways this light can be mounted. Not super bright, so keep that in mind. Feels very functional and durable.

Amazing light
It's important to note that Streamlight makes 4 versions of this light (military, aviation, medical, and sportsman), each with slightly different LED color and operation configuration (check their website product page for details). This is the Aviation model that comes with a green LED instead of red as you may be expecting! Streamlight also makes a newer Sidewinder Compact II, as far as I could tell, the improvements are as follows: * the battery cap is tethered to the flashlight * also accepts 1 AA battery While these are nice improvements, at the time of my purchase it's also twice more expensive and not worth the additional price, for me at least. Pro: * super lightweight * super compact * water and shock resistant * offers a variety of ways to carry it (on the head via a strap, side of hard hats via helmet attachment, on the body or backpack via the clip) * 4 intensity levels and strobe for all LEDs, not just the white light Con: * this particular packaging doesn't come with head strap or helmet mount, I purchased a head strap separately on amazon, the price was not unreasonable and still cheaper than the model II. * the rotary selector knob doesn't indicate what each of the 4 selections are as shown in the picture, instead mine just have the Streamlight logo In conclusion it's a great light for every day carry.
