Definitely got to get use to these type rods
Being a lifelong fisherman and hearing about these Tenkara rods I jumped at the chance to try one out. First off when it arrived and I seen this tiny package I was like what?? As the old saying goes don’t judge a book by its cover, there’s a lot of rod there. Those like me use to western style fishing gear will find the concept of using it….well different to say the least. I always felt like I had no control over the line, you don’t realize how much you depend on the reel for other than bring in a fish. Now that’s not to say anything bad, just that there is, for me anyways, a definite learning curve, more physiological than anything I would say. As for the rod, it is very nicely made, amazing how strong it feels when you look at the slender build and 10 foot length. Does have a good balance and casting is no problem. Line simply attaches to the fixed piece at tip location, called a Lillian, wonder how that got to be its name…lol…just pondering. It definitely has its place as in small mountain streams with no room for western style casting with a flyrod. I’ll have to come back with a more performance oriented review once I get some time in and a feel for it. As I said I see a place and it’s benefits, just got to get past the No reel thing.

Good Value for a Tenkara Rod; Take Care of the Tip
Very Nice Soft Action Tenkara Rod for Small Bass, Trout, Panfish. One must treat the tip with kit gloves however. Fortunately, a Spare Tip is provided. Caught my share of Bluegill and Small Bass second time out. It's important to properly rig your Tenkara Line to the Lillian. If the Rod came with an Attachable Rod Tip Protector it would be the perfect Value offering for a Tenkara Rod.

A perfect fiberglass Tenkara rod
I needed a shorter rod for small stream fishing. This fit the bill. The fiberglass is durable but not too stiff like most carbon rods this size. I’ve landed quite a few fish with this rod.

My new favorite tenkara rod
This is the rod I've been wanting someone to make since I began tenkara fishing in 2009. I love glass fly rods and this is a real beauty. It has a nice soft action paired with 10ft of a 3.5 level line and a few feet of tippet.I also have wanted a back packable tenkara rod of about 10ft but have resisted the temptation to get an expensive graphite rod from a premium outfitter because I have found cheaper imported rods to be suitable for my needs if paired with the right line.10 feet is a nice compromise length for small streams (think bow and arrow cast), perfect for open medium size streams. It is still usable on larger streams, ponds and lakes when using stealthy tactics to get the near shore fish.I haven't weighed this rod because it feels great in hand with a nice balance whether casting dries, nymphs or smaller streamers. I think it is ideal for traditional kebari style flies. I think the rod is perfect but depending on personal preferences I think one should try different kinds and lengths of lines if the action doesn't feel right. I would not change anything about this rod.I've only fished this once for a couple of hours but I feel confident it will be just as durable or more durable than similar graphite rods.I will update this review as needed after I use this rod in multiple scenarios.UPDATE: after 5days fishing for wild westslope cutthroat in Idaho. This rod handled 16" fish in current without breaking. The rod almost bent double at times but the strength and flexibility of the fiberglass wore down the fish quickly. I did notice that the rod did not cast all flies equally. I will experiment with different lines depending upon the size, number and weight of flies I'm using. I did catch and release fish on tiny size 18 nymphs up to size 10 bushy dries all on the same 3.5 Dragontail orange line with 2 to 3 feet of Rio 5x tippet. My fishing buddy had good success fishing with a section of light fly line about 12' with about 3ft of 4x Maxima Ultragreen tippet with a size 12 elk hair caddis using his own Aventik Zeno. He also said he would like to try different line configurations but loved the rod. He also landed fish to 16".I also fished a longer tenkara graphite rod at times and was able to carry my Zeno rigged and ready in my pants pocket.I think this will be my primary stream rod once I figure out the perfect line and tippet configuration for various flies so I can quickly change lines as conditions change. I think I will start carrying two of these rods: one rigged with a dry fly and the other rigged with a kebari style wet with a tiny tungsten beadhead dropper.

This is perfect!
Another awesome job by Aventik! This rod is perfect for those tight spots where casting is out of the question. Sling shot, pop it, or little flicks is all this thing needs! I really like the case it comes in too. Fits perfect in a backpack or in my canoe before heading down river.

Instantly one of my favorite rods.
I've made a small hobby of collecting and trying various tenkara rods. This rod immediately became one of my favorites. It's definitely not a daily driver or a one and done rod. It has its niche uses, but boy is it fun to cast. I would not recommend this as a first or only tenkara rod. But once you know what you are doing, this rod is an awesome and affordable addition to any rod arsenal. This is now my go-to when fishing smaller alpine lakes in colorado.

Super soft.
It takes awhile to get use to but it makes a small fish seem huge.

Very nice surprise!
There is truly something special about the feel of old school fiberglass rods! I used this rod on my favorite Brook Trout creek and it was an amazing experience with these little scrappers! Very impressed with the quality and feel of this Tenkara rod!
