Way better than I expected
On the basis that it cost less than a tenner, I really didn't expect much from this DVD ROM enclosure, and to say I was pleasantly surprised is a massive understatement.I've just bought a new laptop, and, as is the norm these days, it comes without a DVD drive. So, since my old machine is now redundant, I saw logic in stripping its guts for re-use. I put absolutely no research in before I ordered the drive enclosure, so when it arrived and my 9.5mm slotted straight in, I was delighted. The fascia panel even fits precisely, clipping into place firmly into the little slots on my HP drive, and the whole unit looks smart enough to have come from Hewlett Packard itself. Best of all, I only need to use one of the two supplied leads; the whole thing takes power directly from a single USB socket. Overall, an extremely impressive product.

Cheap and cheerful but does the job
When my HP Pavilion laptop decided to die, I salvaged the inbuilt slim (9.5mm) DVD Rewriter - as my replacement Huawei Matebook does not have one.Using this case with it seemed like an economical way of meeting my occasional needs to read and write DVDs.I was concerned about the bezel as previous experience had shown the fitting is not always identical. However, in this case, I simply unclipped the old HP (red) bezel and the new black one clipped on with no trouble. The DVD unit them simply slides into the case - though some instructions would be nice - alas, the 'instruction manual' provided contains no instructions whatsoever!I plugged the device into my new notebook and all worked perfectly. The cables are a tad short particularly if the USB ports are on opposite sides of the laptop. However, for me, the device works perfectly without the power cable at all - as long as the 'data' cable is plugged into a USB-3 port.Be careful as it is tricky ro get the DVD device out of the case once installed! Some careful and gentle levering with a small screwdriver will do the trick. However, once installed, it's best left alone. The case is rather brittle and, I suspect, easily damaged. So, although the unit is a tad cheap and cheerful, it has provided me with an economical way of still accessing DVDs. The unit slips easily into a pocket of my laptop carry-case. As you can probably tell, I am very pleased with the purchase.

Works fine. Cheap
Great value for money, plugged my slim internal dvd player in this, and plugged it into a windows 10 laptop, and played DVDs. What more could you ask for?

Cheap and does the job
Bought to use with DVDRW drive salvaged from my sons laptop upgrade, just didn't want to bin it. Easy to install the drive in the caddy and it works perfectly fine.Looks OK, but feels cheap. Honestly don't think it will be used often, just for my son and daughter to share for their laptops. Do not think it will be used much, who uses these nowadays? probably never for writing but maybe for the old DVD collection.

Do not buy this item.
When i removed this item from it's wrapping ,there was a rattling sound from inside, i tipped it up and 3 pieces of plastic fell out. the rear left hand corner was broken and the lid down the left hand side was loose. there was also no data lead to connect it to pc, there were two usb power leads. i can only describe this as ludicrous that an item was sent out in this condition. definitely not recommended. returned for refund.

Blu-ray ripper caddy
Had a blue ray burner and needed something to put it in. Fitted perfectly first time even the bezel. Good value for money.

Works, but some problems with it on my Laptop
In general I quite like this, but it has a major problem - perhaps only with my laptop specifically.I am querying the probelms with the seller.Problems...I have an HP Pavilion 15-cs3006na laptop. When plugged into the left-hand USB-C port (via a USB3->USB-C adapter), it works - no problem -AND without the separate power adapter supplied plugged in.("Device Manager" shows it as a "USB Mass Storage Device" in the USB Controller section.)When plugged into EITHER of the 2 right-hand USB3 ports (WITH OR WITHOUT the separate poweradapter plugged in), the CD player runs up, and Windows can be heard trying to access it (theWindows "connect" sound plays now and again), but it does not appear in Explorer, and cannot beaccessed. The "Device Manager" screen refreshes every time the Windows "connect" sound occurs, but it isnever shown in the USB Controller list.Strange.At least it works in the USB-C port - could be a power loading problem perhaps.
