Book 8 this is a great series
Its St. Patrick’s Day and Callahan’s former partner Bucky wants Callahan to go to a Shamrock Society event. While Callahan really would love staying home, she goes with Bucky but the night turns terrible when Bucky is shot in the head. Callahan cannot leave things to others while she starts searching things turn up that are so unexpected. Meanwhile, Callahan and her guy are working on what direction their relationship will go, move, or stay in Atlanta. This is a great series and reading about The House Mouse employees.

A new favorite series...
Mary Kay Andrews is one of my favorite writers for when I’m looking for something light, fun, and with a Southern-twist. Little did I know that she also has a mystery series written under her real name, Kathy Hogan Trocheck. I read Irish Eyes which is the 8th novel in her Callahan Garrity series and is now being marketed under her pen name. Again, this book delivers what I have come to expect from Andrews, but it also has a serious side, as well.Callahan Garrity is an Atlanta native and former cop who lives with her mother. While not running a cleaning agency with her mom called The House Mouse, she moonlights as a private investigator. The novel opens on St. Patrick’s Day and her former partner, Bucky Deavers, asks Garrity to accompany him to a St. Patty’s Day party. He wants to introduce her to his fiancée. The host of the event, The Shamrock Society is made up of Irish-American cops. When the fiancée doesn’t show and Deavers becomes too drunk, Garrity insists that Deavers drive her home. But on a pit-stop at a local liquor store, Deavers stumbles upon a robbery and ends up being shot twice. While things are not looking good for her former partner, Garrity starts her own investigation when she hears rumors that Deavers was dirty. In fact, the local rumor-mill is spreading allegations that many cops are dirty and they’re robbing ATMs when businessmen are making their nightly deposits. Of course, Garrity needs the help of her local “cleaning girls,” two who have had their AARP cards for decades, as well as former cops and friends in the know. What she learns puts her life in danger, as well.Mary Kay Andrews has a way of finding humor in almost any situation. As for Garrity, “I quit the force and bought the business in a snit ten years ago, after the bosses had refused to transfer me to the all-male homicide squad. Still, police work, like venereal disease, gets in your system and is hard to shake.” And thus she ends up with a private investigator’s license. The dynamics with her mother are also funny and I can certainly relate. Her mother is famous for “that look. It’s a real time-saver, that look of hers. Without it, we might spend forty-five minutes to an hour bickering over a particularly sticky issue.” But Irish Eyes also touches on important topics including policemen not getting decent pay and police corruption. The one bad part about this novel is that I stumbled upon this series with book number eight. I will definitely go back and start reading Callahan Garrity from the beginning.

These were written Much earlier
I love all Mary K Andrews books but not her earlier ones written as Trocheck. They are ok but not on par with the ones she writes now

surprising
A little over the top with bad cops. I liked Callahan Garrity dogged approach to discovering who did it! The mystery unfolded bit by bit.

Best Yet🍮
Weeeel, grab a cup of coffee like Edna, Callahan, Neva Jean .miss Baby, Miss Sister and the rest of the group would do , sit down and read this book : I recommend it even if #8 is the first one for you ; you’ll catch up . Loved the tangled up situation , didn’t know how tangled it was until the end . Remembered Bucky from earlier times . That was well written especially toward “ the End “ . I’ll stand by this one 😍Miss Scarlet

Keeps you guessing.
Callahan Garrity is an ex-cop who has opened a cleaning business, The House Mouse with her mother. She has found a great guy but they have kept their lives parallel rather than joining together their households. When her good friend and former partner, Bucky shows up on St. Patrick's Day Callahan is bullied into going to a big shindig with him put on by the newly formed Shamrock Society a fraternity of Irish police officers. When Bucky ends up shot in the head that evening, Callahan feels that something is not quite right so she begins her own investigation into the matter.I have read many of Mary Kay Andrew's books but I was not aware of her Callahan Garrity mystery series. The characters drew you into the story and she was able to keep you guessing about what really did happen that evening. I would certainly read another book in the series.

Callahan Garrity and crew -- how I miss them!
Back when Mary Kay Andrews was writing as Kathy Trocheck, and turning out mysteries instead of fluff, she was one of my favorite writers. This audio book harks back to that series, and is pretty darned good -- although I think by the time this was written Andrews already had started losing interest in Callahan Garrity and her cleaning crew, who solved mysteries with the same enthusiasm they spruced up dirty houses.I would love to see some new Kathy Trocheck/Callahan Garrity mysteries. Maybe now that Andrews has had a lengthy break from the series, she might consider writing a new book about Callahan and Mac and Sister and the rest of the delightfully mismatched but oh-so-likeable cast.

Total enjoyed the whole series
I enjoyed the whole series. I loved all the characters. There was alway a who done it in each book. She keeps you on your toes trying to figure out who done the murder. With fun from her employees and her family life. My daughter lived in Atlanta and husband was an Atlanta police officer. I love all the way she described the Atlanta area as she drove around reminded me so much of my daughters time in Atlanta.
