God's Kingdom through God's Covenants: A Concise Biblical Theology

Helpful!
I am no scholar. I am a stay at home mom that homeschools my daughter. I began reading through the Bible as part of a Bible Reading Challenge. I found I had so many questions about the relationship from the OT to the NT that were not answered by my four year Bible college degree. I also started to feel that the system I have held to wasn't something that I was able to pull from the text as I was reading it, but rather felt like it had been forced upon the text. I began to search for resources to better explain covenant theology (since I was coming from a dispensational background). Somehow I stumbled upon this book. I am halfway through it but so grateful for this! I feel that it has helped explain things to me that I've always just tried to understand in my Western understanding of life and culture. It has also shown me so many beautiful connections in Scripture. I keep reading, and then searching the Scriptures. This has been helpful! It is making me wish I understood the original language and could read the text in the original myself, but I am grateful for scholars that can do that and explain it in a way that even I can understand. Mostly I'm thankful for how it has sought to explain scripture without trying to fit it into a predetermined system, which is how I stumbled on this book to begin with!

A must-read for understanding biblical covenants
I'm currently using this text as the curriculum for our adult Sunday School class and it has been outstanding. It's a concise, rich, and compelling articulation of the unique role the covenants play in the meta-narrative of Scripture. I had read through most of Kingdom through Covenant: A Biblical-Theological Understanding of the Covenants and have found GKTGC to be a very helpful summary of its contents. I would, however, highly recommend purchasing the larger volume (KTC) as a resource text. The one drawback of this book is its less than accessible language. The subject matter doesn't naturally lend itself to readability; add to that the fact that the book is a distillation of some 800+ pages and it shouldn't be any surprise that not everyone will be able to pick up this book and read it without the help of additional theological resources. For this reason, I would highly recommend this book to any pastor and theologically well-versed lay person desiring to grow in their understanding of the biblical covenants.

Take the good, spit out the bones
Some good stuff, but also some places I felt his interpretation was inaccurate.

Excellent Read
I liked how the author presents each covenant and then showed how each one built on the one/others before.

Excellent Overview of God’s redemptive work
Easy to understand, step by step analysis of the covenants in the Bible and their relationship between each other. This book gives you the big picture of what God is doing in the Bible. Makes sense of the Bible.

Great abridged version
I have been reading this but highlighting the 1000 page behemoth in Logos Bible Software. It follows along great, skips parts that have a lot of technical jargon but doesn't discard the meat. Very influential on understanding how the whole of Scripture fits together. Highly recommend!
