It's rated to hold up to 90 kg (200 lbs). The bottom plate screws into your camera (like a tripod plate would) and can be adjusted to sit further back or forward so it doesn't interfere with pull- out screens. Then you just have to scream the clip to something solid - I have mine on the left hand strap of my backpack - but I also have the PROPad which lets you attach it lower on belt (kind of like a holster). You could also just put it straight onto your belt but I find that difficult to clip and unclip (it's just a weird place). I use mine almost every day with a SONY a7riii, admittedly that is a mirrorless so reasonably light body - but with a 135mm sigma lens on, the weight soon builds up. It manages fine. **Q: is this new version metal? i have the old version which in cold weather the camera was difficult to get in and out of the strap. anyone have this too** A: Yes, this one is all metal, works well, although getting the camera in and out can sometimes be a little tricky. You need to develop the knack, it takes a little practise. It is extremely well made/engineered, I go long-distance mountain hiking with it and carry a large SLR with heavy zoom lens, so it can take some weight also. **Q: Would this work with the CL-3 handstrap attached?** A: I can't say for certain it would fit with the strap attached. I have mine attached to my camera bag strap. **Q: What is the difference in this plate & the dual plate? trying to work out the best option, this set or buy both clip only plus the dual plate** A: Hi Nick, the Dual Plate is compatible with Manfrotto RC2 tripod heads AND ARCA heads, BUT only goes into the Capture Clip in two, rather than 4 ways. If you don't have a Manfrotto Tripod, it is best to go with the Standard Plate. I have it paired with a Peak Designs Cuff (another very good piece of kit), and I can attach the cuff to my wrist, click the release button on the Capture, and take the camera out quickly and entirely one-handed.On my first outing using the Capture I did run into a problem. The base plate that's attached to the camera became loose. I don't like over-tightening screws and, as a result, I hadn't applied enough pressure when fastening it. The loosening became obvious well before the camera would have actually fallen off. The immediate symptoms were a difficulty attaching and removing the camera from the Capture. The screw needs a (provided) hex key to tighten. I hadn't brought one with me but managed to tighten the screw and then twist the base plate to tighten it further. It stayed tightly fastened for several hours after that; more than long enough to complete my walk.I've now properly tightened the screw holding the base plate in place. Except for the first loosening of the baseplate, I've always felt completely confident in the ability of the Capture to hold my camera securely in place. The release button can be easily twisted to lock the camera into the Capture so that the button needs twisting and then pressing to release. I've never seen it unlock without me doing it.The gap between the bolts that attach the capture to a rucksack isn't massive. It fastens to all the rucksacks I use it with, but with one of them the shoulder strap needs squeezing for the bolts to fit around. I'd check that the strap you want to fasten it to will fit between the bolts.In use it's brilliant. I slip my hand through the cuff, grab the grip of the camera, then press the Capture release with my thumb and I'm good to go. Returning the camera to the Capture there's a very reassuring clunk and I know it's locked in place. It really is that easy. I am using a relatively small Sony mirrorless camera, and couldn't be sure that the single handed operation would be as straightforward with a chunky DSLR, but for me it's great.Like I said at the start, not quite perfect but close enough for the full 5 stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for providing quick access *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 10 August 2020* I use my Peak Design - Capture clip to hold my camera when I go for hikes. I dislike camera straps around the neck and continually getting the camera out of a backpack is a pain. I have tried the clip on both the shoulder strap and belt and think that the belt is the most comfortable. (I have walked distances of 15 miles and more and not had an issue).I use it to hold a Canon EOS R and 24-240mm lens. The camera just hangs there, does not interfere with walking and is instantly available when I want to take a photo. Also means I have both hands free while hiking.I have replaced the ball head on my tripod, and the quick release my monopod, for ones that that accept the Arca plate. This means the plate does not need to be removed to put the camera on a tripod.I have tried the clip with multiple straps and have not had an issue of getting it to fit.Only downside is the cost, but it works well and seems to be well made. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worth it *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 8 July 2026* Worth the purchase.
