Comprehensive, Well Written
I bought this for my daughter in law, who just moved into a new house and has been sewing about a year. It's a useful book for novice or experienced seamstresses (sorry but "sewer" just looks wrong). There's discussion of how to figure out what your "house style" is (summation: it's whatever you like), of different fabrics and their uses, and of basic stitching techniques - all good for novices. There are projects for every room of the house detailed, including showing some pieces of used furniture which are painted and upholstered to look new and beautiful. Some projects are no-brainers, like placemats and napkins; others are more interesting, like a floor mat, fabric baskets, basket liners. Some are more complicated, like a bathrobe and even a slipcover. This is a very comprehensive book, well written and illustrated, and I can't wait to give it to my daughter in law for Easter!

Excellent
I love this book as the "how to" sections are excellent...love that Lexie Barnes breaks it down into how to measure, type of stitch to use, technique, etc. so you can go to the store and buy what you need to do the project. I wasn't blown away by the fabric selection on the other hand I know how to do that...what I was looking for was a "how to" on making lamp shades, box cushions for chairs, throw pillows, duvet covers, upholstered headboards, etc. Very handy book, nice technique, simple to follow instructions. I bought it used and it was definitely a bargain which I'd recommend to any one interested in easy do it yourself projects for your home.

A Very Good Basic Book of Home Dec Projects
The projects are detailed by room and includes sewing room projects too. I especially like that the projects are not fussy so that they can easily be modified to fit your design ethos whether it be minimalism, shabby chic or boho.

Great Resource!
From beautiful, simple Roman Shade window coverings, to really nice sofa slipcovers, this little book has it all! It even contains a tutorial on making fabric slippers and even light switch covers! Everything is perfectly illustrated and the directions are right on target. What a great resource for spicing up and pampering your home!

Dear Amazon, why the heck did you ask me ...
Dear Amazon, why the heck did you ask me about how developed the characters are in a sewing pattern book?

Defintely helpful to a beginner!
Some of the projects weren't my style, but everything taught me a new skill. I would recommend it to others.

probably would not buy again
The gorgeous photos are so inspiring! Makes me want to sew up a storm. However, the instructions are not very in depth. This book assumes you know a lot already. I prefer many sewing blogs to this book for that reason!

Nice book to own
This is a fun read with lots of great ideas. I got it specifically to make a roman shade as shown on the cover. Haven't made it yet, but the author makes all things look possible.
