Omen The - Trilogy BD [Blu-ray]

This set for the year these films were originally made is absolutely worth the asking price. In my opinion the original made in 1976 sporting an exceptional cast, particularly Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Billie Whitelaw is this series finest hour and that alone is worth the asking price.The majority of the special features are on the first disc they include a number of documentaries, interviews, a separate film score track, original theatrical trailer and as one would expect from a set like this, an audio commentary. Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack for this movie is outstanding and evokes a truly chilling atmosphere. The 5 star rating is essentially given for the original movie."The Omen", for many psychological thriller, horror officianado's (much to Richard Donner's chagrin as he absolutely doesn't consider it to be part of the horror genre ) was when it came out in 1976 and is still today one of the very best films of its type. I couldn't agree more.Damien Omen 2, it's almost as good in a different way. The casting of William Holden and Lee Grant in this certainly ups the ante for this film, the supporting cast again is excellent and of course Jonathan is particularly good as the teenage Damien. It may not be as good as the original, but it is definitely worth a watch.The Final Conflict is perhaps the weakest of the 3. I never really felt Sam Neil's heart was truly in the performance. The ideas within are fine, but sadly it just doesn't seem up to the same standard or atmosphere of its predecessors. To be fair though there are a couple of genuinely chilling moments.All in all if I didn't have this set, or it went missing, I'd absolutely buy it againWorth the 5 stars for the original alone.Recommended

This is the three film box-set of “The Omen”. The trilogy consists of: ‘The Omen’ (1976), ‘Damien: Omen 2’ (1978), and ‘Omen 3: The Final Conflict’ (1981). I’ve previously owned these on DVD, but recently re-purchased them – on Blu-ray. The HD picture quality is superb.The films are about the birth, life and death of Damien Thorn – the son of Satan. As a baby, this child is adopted by Robert and Katherine Thorn, a wealthy and politically influential family. Upon the death of his adopted parents, Damien is raised by his uncle, a rich businessman. Finally, as an adult, Damien takes over the Thorn business empire – and also enters politics, aspiring for the presidency of the USA. Throughout his life, people become aware that Damien is in fact the Antichrist … some are there to protect and serve him, while others intend to rid the world of his evil.This is a Biblically inspired film franchise, and draws on certain passages from the Book of Revelation – which makes for excellent fiction. By taking this source material seriously, and treating it in a dark and complex manner (rather than tongue-in-cheek), so these films possess a definite gravitas. The first, especially, is a genuine modern horror classic. While neither of the sequels retain the same degree of suspense as the first, both are very good.This set of films come with several bonus features, the most interesting of which is the documentary ‘666: The Omen Revealed’ which explores the making of the franchise. While aspects of these films have dated, they nonetheless represent excellent story-telling and acting. I recommend this set to viewers who enjoy suspense-based horror films.

First of all let me just say, these films are cult. The transfers are nice and eventhough the audio isn't that great on the sequals at times it's a must own for BD fans. And luckily the coaster, I mean remake is absent.But I have a gripe with this release as with many blu-ray releases in the UK. They're not the UK versions like the DVD's, but the US ones. Whereas the BBFC may pass a film without sensoring it, the American MPAA might just cut it in their R-rated versions. Now we are stuck over here in Europe with ridiculous US sensoring. How can a foreign sensoring agency hold sway over domesticly released content? Is this even legal? Why are European governments not responding?ANYWAYS, the Blu-ray of The Final Conflict is sensored. A scene is clearly cut that is present in the previous remaster DVD UK boxset. Whether the first two films are cut I couldn't tell at first glance and since I don't own the DVD's anymore I can't do a comparison.

Contains spoilersThis trilogy of movies dating back to 1976, is a very hit and miss series of movies, and is of course dependent on the viewers own 'favourite' , I feel the omen, and Damien Omen are the best of the trilogy with final conflict being something of a letdown.That been said all three are well linked, with the Gregory peck/Lee remick -ably assisted by David Warner , Leo Mckern and Patrick troughton.The omen still stands as a terrific religious/ alien child thriller (post Rosemary's baby and the Exorcist), with a superb score from jerry goldsmith.Damien omen 2 picks up with Damien as a 13 year old boy unaware of his unusual parentage, through the movie ( and successive grisly deaths) this is revealed to him.William Holden, Lee grant, Leo Mckern support.By the final conflict-Damien has become an adult, played by Sam Neil. Neil doesn't play Damien as sympathetic. Or particularly likeable, and although the 'herod' sequence is often derided as coming across as "funny" rather than frightening, it does follow the internal logic of its characters and motivations. Alas the movie is let down by a weak ending (that contradicts all that has happened before). After saying that the movies are six great hours of entertainment, & as others have pointed out before, the first Studio series of "slasher" movies.Generally very professionally acted and lit with superb scores (all by Goldsmith).Some elements of the each movie are stronger than others-as with any series.And if you can get for under £9 a bargain...
