This tool saves a lot of time over manually stripping the wire and is cleaner than burning the insulation off prior to soldering on electric motors, thereby making in my opinion a better connection. Once I got the hang of using it, it was very easy to remove the enamel off of the wire I was working with.It's a little cheaply made, but so far, It's holding up really well for the money.

Be sure to experiment with the width setting dial. You need the proper # in order to not munch the wire or not to miss the enamel coating.

Have been using powered wire strippers for over 40 years, up until this one they have all come from Germany & had the price to prove it. At over $800 and taking over 4 months to arrive, another option had to be considered. The upside is that these have a 'soft-start' and the protective clear plastic cover offers better protection from the inevitable short piece of copper wire breaking off and hitting one in the eye. The clear piece also has a hole in the end where the wire is inserted. This ensures that the wire is centered, thereby improving the stripping process. The down-side is that the German made wire strippers allow the three metal blades to be replaced, these do not.

I've never owed a magnet wire stripper. This machine is used to strip enameled covered wire. I will not strip other heavy plastic, rubber, or heavy urethane insulated wire. Not entirely sure of this because I have not tried it. Product information says it's good at stripping enameled covered magnet wire and it does do this. So far I have only tripped 14 gauge wire. Must say though, as limited as my experience is with this machine, I will never go back to scraping off insulation with a knife, sand paper and/or steel wool. Simply stick wire into the end of the machine, push nicely located thumb button, pull wire out slowly, and the wire is ready for soldering or clamping.

I tried everything else to try to strip magnet wire, from sandpaper, emery boards etc. This is a must have when working with this type of wire.
