I teach ESL to adults. One of my students found this book and asked what I thought. I loved the idea, and the page or two I could see online looked good. I was really disappointed when I actually got the book and reviewed it. I was most excited about the fact it shows how English would be pronounced in Spanish. English is not at all phonetic, so I do approximate how it would sound in Spanish for my beginners. However, it takes a lot of time to do it. I hoped this book would solve that. Alas, it didn’t.Major problem #1 - The book doesn’t always show the correct pronunciation. That makes this important feature useless.Major problem #2 - about 30% of the conversation in the book is the same - Hi, how are you? How are you doing today? After the first one or two times, it’s a waste of space.Major problem #3 - way too much irrelevant content and vocabulary. If you’re learning English and need help with English phonics, it’s very unlikely that you’re chatting in English about the environment, politics, and computer recommendations. Yet these are just a sampling of the completely irrelevant topics included. Even for more common topics, the book includes uncommon and infrequently used words (modes of transportation?!?)Fortunately this wasn’t an expensive book, which is good because I stopped using it with my class after trying 2 conversations with them. Don’t waste your money on this book. It will get you no closer to speaking English.
