Is this a tool for ants??? Seriously!!! Yes, yes it is...
I'll let the attached photos do most of the talking. I like Schrade; have a couple of their blades & they seem to have a lot of very nice, solid budget offerings with unique designs & sturdy builds. The Schrade fixed blade knife I have is just like I like most of my knives; sharpened prybar. Fully about 0.25" thick, beefy; confidence-inspiring. I love it. I've always had an obsession with rescue hooks and tools like this Schrade Extraction. I purchased and am comparing this Schrade Extraction tool to the "Gerber Crisis Hook Rescue Tool." I purchased the Gerber crisis several years ago. I think here on Amazon. and thought I would give the Schrade Extraction a try as I want to mount it in / on one of our cars. When it arrived, I was pretty disappointed with how small the Schrade Extraction appeared to be. But then when I pulled it out of the package, it became an actual joke. This tool was literally designed for ants - seriously. Whoever designed this tool watched Zoolander way too many times and took it to heart. True, I have pretty large hands - I wear a size XL glove - but this is a joke how small this Schrade tool is. I honestly can't believe that anything approaching a full-size man held this thing before it was approved for mass production. The Gerber Crisis, on the other hand, feels exactly how you'd like a life-saving tool to feel; nice, substantial and beefy. High-quality with a very grippy rubberized handle. Thick. Even then, I wish that the Gerber crisis was just a touch thicker. I am all about overkill - Give me overkill. Double it. Then double it again. And maybe that's where I like to be. Esp. for a potentially life-saving tool. I love the nice "round" number of 0.25; 1/4" thick is where I love most of my blades / tools / prybars to be - at a minimum. This Schrade tool seems of decent quality, but it is alarmingly thin; about a half to a third the thickness of the Gerber. While you could of course wrap the handle in paracord to increase the size and give this Schrade additional grip, it's still so small that I literally can't imagine trusting mine nor my family's lives to it, God forbid we ever need it. I couldn't feel it flex, but also didn't want to try bending it too hard at all because I instantly knew I was returning this puppy. This runt of the litter. And I'm being generous. Again, it seems of decent quality, but based on the size alone, this thing is getting returned. I've always been sensitive to / critical of products that have slick grips, or grip surfaces that would immediately become slick as soon as your hands get the tiniest bit wet / damp / sweaty, let alone soaked in blood & automotive fluids if you were in an accident. Here's another area where the Gerber far outshines the Schrade. The Gerber has a nice, very grippy & reassuring, rubberized coating. Please try again Schrade... I want to love this tool & would buy a v.2.0 if you double the size & triple the thickness..... Oh, one last thing; the sheath is embossed with what seems to be a guide / pictogram telling you which direction to insert the tool; it must be somewhat form-fitted. Well, when you insert it the way it's embossed on the sheath (hook opening facing to the left, opposite how the tool is positioned in my photo) it catches / snags very definitively on something inside the sheath when you draw. Literally the last thing you want in an emergency situation when you are trying to get at your tools is for it to snag on its own poorly-designed / manufactured sheath. Esp. since it's following directions / following the way Schrade is telling you to insert this tool. IDK if it's intentional to act as a last-ditch guard against the tool falling out of the sheath inadvertently, but I don't want catches or snags as I'm trying to hurriedly draw a tool, esp. God forbid in an actual accident / situation where life & limb is at stake. Pretty ridiculous......

Get a quality blade instead
Looks cool but does not function well, the blade is extremely dull and your better off getting a quality steel sharp skinning blade to do the job. Was looking for a gut hook to help with the ease of skinning but after fumbling trying to get it to work I quickly dropped it and picked up my Benchmade saddle mountain skinner to help me skin some paper thin rabbit skin. Should've returned it when I had the chance
