253: A compelling snapshot of humanity in transit Paperback – 5 Dec. 1997

I love this book. I love the ingenuity of it, I love the contemporariness of it, I love the symetry of it and I love that you get 253 stories in one. Each page has 253 words describing 253 characters with an end goal (one collective narrative of a train ride).As a London lass, riding the tube regularly, this book speaks to me personally as well as jovialy, this is a book for people who love the written word, love a good story and enjoy seeing an author play with his medium in a confident and new way.

I loved the idea of this book so much, and was so sorry to have missed seeing it on the web ([...]/) before it was published on wood pulp, that I have set up a Facebook group for people to put their own 253 word profile on. (If you have seen the book/website, you will know what I mean)The group is called "253 or tube theatre" and is open to all postings. Please join in, it's only for fun, it's an homage to Geoff Ryman's great book/website so be nice people.

A very interesting and original idea, although it is somewhat lacking in execution. Great characters. This is the ideal book to take on a tube journey, not only because of the subject matter but because it's easy to read, put down and pick up. I'd give the idea 4 stars and the execution 3. I probably wouldn't read it again, but it passed the time and I enjoyed it.

I brought this book many years back and lost my copy so I got another once..... Its a great read and as I travel on the Tube everyday it makes me look at my fellow travelers and wounder what are they thinkingIts a shame this is not in Kindle version but hope that one day it dose.

The further through I got in this book the more I started to like it. I Like the premise -253 passengers, a page and 253 words on each. Very clever. Easy to pick up and revisit if you’re short of time making it an easy read.Only once I started creating scenarios in my head to go along with the written synopsis did I really start to get involved with this book. I’m sticking with it to the end.

This is a well book at a really good price. I am very happy with this purchase. Very happy !

Im not sure if anyone else has had this, I can’t find a photo of this cover anywhere. I was disappointed as this is a gift and the cover looks nothing like the one advertised. Ordered as a gift so haven’t read it but what I’ve read looks very good.
