What is the difference between j-b weld 8280 and j-b weld 8270? i need to fix a aluminum casting. thanks

http://www.jbweld.com/pages/faqs    straight from their faqs page.looks like the 8280 is about 30% stronger once fully cured. of course it takes longer to set up. when possible, i usually try to drill a hole or two though the pieces so the j-b can squeeze through and sort of lock in behind the pieces.

Question 2

Need to put casters in an open metal pipe.  can i mold around caster and place in pipe? will it bond to metal screw on top of caster?

one of the reviewers did not think it was strong enough to hold the caster in the pipe, i don't know the epoxy is pretty strong. so what is the diameter of the caster rod and diameter of the pipe? you could always pack the void around the caster rod with nails coated with epoxy, i would make sure the metal was oil an grease free to make a bond, maybe even rough up surface with sandpaper.

Can this be used to adhere a metal hinge to aluminum plate?

Yes, you can use JB Kwik to bond metal to aluminum.  The bonding surfaces need to be roughed up (not smooth) with 30 or 40 grit sand paper. Put a thin layer of JB  Kwik on each surface , then clamp the surfaces together and allow 24 hours to cure (JB Kwick will "set up" in about 5 minutes, but a "full cure" requires a longer time. If you require a stronger bond (for heavy items) I suggest drilling through the materials and using stainless bolts and nuts to fasten them together in addition to the JB Weld.

I'm gluing metal to metal, Is this as good as the 3M body epoxy which requires 24 hours to fully cure?

JB Kwick Epoxy sets up in about five minutes, but takes a good 4-6 hours to fully cure I give it longer. As for bonding metal to metal - make sure the surfaces are clean and dry (residue free - clean surfaces with lacquer thinner or Acetone).  Sand surfaces to be bonded with at least 180 grit sand paper (or cloth backed 180 grit) and clean off sanding residue after. Spread JB Kwick in thin layer on each surface then press and clamp the surfaces together until fully bonded. If bonding a large surface  area I recommend using regular JB Weld epoxy as it has a longer set up and cure time. Five minutes can go by very quickly and the JB Kwick will start to get too tacky after about 3 minutes and will be difficult to spread, so you have to work quickly.  You should do a "test" bond on same type metal prior to use to check bond drying time and strength before actual use.
