AudioQuest1.5 m RJ/E pearl 1.5 m Cat7 black network cable

Nice cable though only 28 AWG
Bought this Audioquest Pearl Cat7 ethernet cable in 1.5m and 0.75m lengths, but was surprised on opening the first box to find that the cable is labelled as 28 AWG on the sheath and not the 23 AWG stated in the bullet points on the Amazon web page. This error also occurs in HiFi magazine reviews (The Ear review being one). The confusion arises because the bulk version of this cable, Pearl Cat700, which is intended for routing through walls, is specified as 23 AWG in the Audioquest brochure, while this Pearl Cat7 patch cable has no gauge specified. Only when you see the cable do you find out what gauge it is, the box has no specification of the gauge (see accompanying photos). I have informed Amazon about the error on their web page so hopefully they will correct it soon. The cable is well made and neat and I listened for a while, comparing it to the World of Data Cat 6a cable that I had been using for a few years, which was bought on Amazon for less than £10. Both cables are shielded (S/FTP) but the Audioquest cable uses solid wire rather than stranded, while the World of Data cable is marked as 26 AWG and so has slighter thicker conductors. The Audioquest seems better made but I could not hear any difference between the two cables. They sounded identical but both sounded better when I compared them to a Cat 5e unshielded cable (24 AWG) that I had available, I am not sure where the Cat 5e cable came from. However, I have also been trying an Audioquest Cinnamon Cat 7 and in this case the Audioquest Cinnamon cable did seem to give a better sound than any of the others. Only a small difference, one has to listen very carefully to hear that difference. The Cinnamon cable appears, apart from cosmetic changes, to be identical to the Pearl but with silver plating over the copper to 1.25% of total metal; the braid on the Cinnamon sheath prevents one identifying the gauge in this case. The Cinnamon cable is more than double the price of the Pearl and about 10 times that of the World of Data Cat 6a. Whether it is worth paying the extra money for a small difference is an obvious question and it will depend on how expensive the rest of the equipment is.
