In the mid-1970s, when Stevie Ray Vaughan first emerged as a modern blues guitarist with unparalleled ability and passion - skills which distinguished his playing from that of just about all his contemporaries - the blues world he represented had little impact in the mainstream market place. So despite his obvious gifts, he struggled to secure a record deal. But by the time his debut album, 1983 s Texas Flood, was finally released, the tide had turned and Stevie Ray not only became an international phenomenon, but was also of paramount importance in the revitalisation of the blues genre. This film traces and reveals the full, previously un-told story of Stevie Ray Vaughan s glory years, the period between the release of his debut album and his tragic death in a helicopter crash in 1990. Featuring; rare film footage, exclusive interviews with many close friends and confidantes, contributions from the industry professionals and music writers who documented SRV s career as it unfolded, seldom seen photographs and numerous other features, which together make this program the finest documentary yet on the personal life and career of Stevie Ray during his most fertile and productive era. PLEASE NOTE: This film is the sister feature to Sexy Intellectual s previous documentary, Rise Of A Texas Bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan 1954 - 1983

Excellent synopsis of Stevie's career. 😎
Excellent. I spent a week with Stevie, Double Trouble and his entourage in 1988. I'm quite sure that after studying his entire career since 1983 that I could make a good job of using Stevie's career as a specialist subject on Mastermind. Superb documentary. I only noticed one tiny mistake in it, so should be fine for everyone else! 😎

The best documentary onStevie Ray out there
Full in depth documentary on the music of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Absolutely brilliant and told in the words of the band members and co stars of the time. Can not ask for a more fitting tribute to a legend that still excites musicians and listeners alike today.

Voodoo child wails
A brilliant documentary, informative and full of insights into Stevie’s life and career. Unfortunately there are no new interviews with Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon in here as it is reused footage from a lot of live concert dvd extras. Some of the commentary from British music journo’s is detracting as we are here for the narrative of Stevie’s life and not inarticulate critiques of his work. Aside from that, well worth the watch.

I concur with other reviewers here, this is a very good documentary about SRV, and a good second part to the earlier released DVD Rise Of A Texas Bluesman.Very much recommended

Great, minus the talking heads nonsense.
Great to see SRV doing his thing. Less so some of the ill informed rubbish from certain contributory individuals ( well one typically poorly informed music journo ). A sad trait of these UK produced affairs is a complete lack of grasp on the music scene at the time. Apparently Clapton was easy listening and we were all into Eurythmics and Soft Cell..........there was a whole musical world going on beyond your nasty shallow little world, even in the UK. A better introduction to the the great man would be a copy of Texas Flood, which thankfully does not contain the plastic narrative accompanying this piece of film.

Gold for the blues
This value for money 108 minute DVD is the follow on from the highly acclaimed Rise Of A Texas Bluesman : Stevie Ray Vaughan 1954 - 1983. Just like its predecessor this closing chapter of the Stevie Ray Vaughan story does justice to a renowned performer. SRV helped transform the bay of blues from an archaic aural area and drag it kicking and punching in to the 70's when a whole new rafter of musical genres were appearing and challenging the traditional status quo. His 1983 fresher album Texas Flood placed Mr Vaughan to the fore of a blues revolution. From this juncture up up until his sad 1990 demise in a helicopter crash is the cause for exploration on this exquisite entity. Analysis and action from this period which obviously scored major highs and the ultimate low are given due respect in a pristine package. It is a gold for the blues here - but one thinks what could have been if this precocious talent had continued to garner his guitar guile.

... other night and I have to say this is pretty well done
I watched this on Amazon Prime the other night and I have to say this is pretty well done. The story picks up with the lead-up to The Montreux Jazz Festival in 1983 when Stevie was booed off the stage, how Texas Flood was conceived, the disastrous 1985-1986 period which included honest critiques of 2 lack-luster releases: Soul to Soul and Live Alive, lengthy discussion of SRV's drug dependency and how it almost killed him...twice. Also a lengthy discussion about how SRV conquered his demons and returned to the album of his career, In Step. Jim Gaines, co-producer of In Step, relays a story about how the version of Riviera Paradise, which appears on In Step, was almost lost to the ether...which is just as gut wrenching (at least to me) as the loss of SRV on that fateful August evening. This is definitely worth 2 hours of your time.

Very good feature on the relatively short years of recording, fortune, fame, and overcoming addiction. Good special.
I've watched many specials on SRV, and own all his available music, and this was a good feature. As the title indicates, this is in particular about the last six years of his life, not a complete bio. These were the years of his fame, not what led up to it, so expect none of his early life. I learned things, so I recommend it if you're a fan, or a music fan in general. Good stuff.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 1984 - 1990 - Lonestar .
I'm not so much into documentaries how ever make an exception for great musicians like SRV , unfortunate no rare live performances in Lonestar , just a documentary about his Glory years from 1984 to 1990 and interviews with family , friends , professionals in the music industry with some rare footage , good as a documentary goes .
