The perfect EDC writing implement
Purchased to compliment my Rite in the Rain Notepad - and the combination is ideal. In fact, was useful the first day I had it, to jot down a phone number whilst out walking in the rain. The pen comes nicely packaged in a quality printed card box, containing a solid transparent plastic case, holding the pen in a little "mood scape", underneath which is some interesting "history" reading. The package is nice for gifting purposes. The pen itself is made of coated brass, so longevity and durability should be great. I tested writing on my waterproof notepad whilst it was fully submerged in water, and it functioned perfectly. I then tried writing upside down, on the wet paper and again - perfect! Closed, the pen is simply tiny! I slip the secure pocket clip into the binding spiral of my notepad, and the pen sticks out either side of the pad by a tiny bit. I can then slip both into my breast pocket for EDC. Open, the pen is elegant and comfortable to hold and use. It's about the same length and diameter of a normal good quality pen. A little o-ring holds the lid/end-cap in place when closed, and requires only a very slight force to remove. I wouldn't feel confident that the cap would stay firm under duress i.e. clipped to a shirt pocket when doing an active job like warehouse work or similar. I can't say for certain that it would come loose, but it feels like it could. When open, the cap needs to be only lightly pushed onto the pen body to hold firm enough for writing. It came with the Fisher medium nib and black ink installed, which I find writes smoothly and easily, and does a fine job for general everyday use. I enjoy knowing that I have a reliable writing implement (that won't snap at the wrong second like a pencil can) with me at all times, that's so small and understated, that it doesn't impede my daily doings. Great product :-)

Really nice pen.
This is a very good pen that will last for many years. It has a metal body and lid which makes it strong but not too heavy. When closed, the pen is quite small and easy to store in just about any pocket. The pocket clip can be removed but it requires a bit of force to do so. The body of the pen is only about 1.5mm longer than the ink cartridge inside it. By attaching the lid to the bottom of the pen it makes the pen much longer and easier to hold. I have taken some photos of the pen beside a plastic ruler to show it's exact length. There are also some photos of the pen in my hands with and without the lid in place to give an idea of how it looks. I'm 6'0" tall and have x-large (size 10) hands. I can confirm that the pen works well, the ink is smooth to write with and it feels like any good quality pen - the difference with the Space Pen is that the ink cartridge is pressurised and it will write on damp paper or at any angle. Fisher also claim that the cartridge holds 3 times as much ink as a Parker Pen, but I haven't tested that yet! In the photo of the ink cartridge that I uploaded, the piece of white plastic is an attachment that lets you use the ink cartridge in a standard Parker Pen - it isn't used in the Space Pen itself.

Expensive, But Really Good
I remember back in the 90s; watching Seinfeld: Season 3 that Jerry Seinfeld managed to get one of these pens from one of his father's friends, and have always been intrigued by them. So, when I saw Amazon had one for sale I had to get it, though I felt the price was rather steep, I just had to experience the buzz! This is a good pen, well crafted and weighty. The lacquer finish is rather cool and is quite noticeable, so you'll know if someone has taken it. It writes when you're lying in bed and need to lean on one side, and can even write upside down. It seems to not need much of a leaning surface to write either, which is very good. Another good thing is that it's only 8cm long , so you can put it in your pocket. When you take the lid off and put it on the back of it, it's a full-length pen! I've found my uni notes are a lot clearer with it too, as the nib seems to roll nicely on my notebook, though the highlighter I'm using seems to smudge the writing, but I don't blame the pen. This pen is also very easily refilled with the Fisher Space Pen Ball Pen Refill Black Medium pack. One thing I did find a bit strange was the lines on the pen at the bottom where your finger rests, I hope it doesn't make an indent on my finger over time. Well worth getting if you do a lot of writing, worth every penny.

Great quality pen
Great Item, but delivered in a box that was mostly fallen apart and battered by the courier

Stunning micro pen
I was looking for an original easy to carry pen which wouldn't go unnoticed in the office, when I came across the red edition of the Fisher space world bullet pen. Four characteristics seduced me straight away: the small form factor, the electric red colour, the outstanding customer feedback and the rather reasonable price. I am very happy with my purchase. As you can see on my pictures, the pen looks great in red. It's well-designed, sturdy and while the pen is very comfortable to hold when open -with a length similar to a regular pen's- this thing is SO TINY when closed. Perfect to carry with you everywhere... but also easy to forget or loose. ;-) Last but not least, writing with it is a pleasure.

Not cheap, but a quality item
On the many lists of essential EDC items it's hard to find one not listing the Fisher Space pen. For good reason. It's a well made and classic design. Some criticise it for being unusable as it's too small for man hands - it's no Argos pen, so I fail to see the logic here. It folds away small, but reverse the cap it turns into a full length pen. As can be seen in the picture against a "regular" pen. Now I confess to being a computer geek so I don't actually write much. That's not the idea for my usage of this though. It's an essential carry item only where I need it and not for writing essays. For me the quality of the ink is not a problem at all. I'm no calligraphist and can still read my hand writing in exactly the same way as any other pen I've used. I ordered a refill too, as a backup, and was pleases to find it came with an adapter to allow it to be used in other makes of pen such as a Parker! So I guess if you want to, you can even turn a cheap school pen into a space pen for a fraction of the cost.

Stunning looking excellent writer
The picture doesn't do this pen justice - it really is beautiful. Plus it writes very smoothly, comfortably, and reliably (no blobs, no warm up strokes needed, never leaks). Unfortunately it will fall out of the pockets of formal trousers, but it's ideal to pop in your jeans pocket, or a jacket pocket, where it's so small and light that you can forget about it until you need it. An optional pocket clip accessory is available, but it rather spoils the effect (of the rainbow version at least). Update: I've discovered the the black leather pouch available for the LAMY Pico pen fits this space pen perfectly. What's more, it stops it falling out of your suit trouser pocket. And it's cheap (I paid only £6.50). Highly recommended for keeping it unscratched.

I love my space pen
I bought this pen exactly 13 years ago from Amazon, and it still works perfectly having used it on and off throughout that time. I chose the gold coloured version which looks gorgeous. When closed it's very compact, but opens to a perfectly usable size when the cap is placed on the other end. I have to admit it was well under half the current price when I bought it, so perhaps not quite the bargain it was then. Nonetheless, a wonderful example of a quality space pen.
