For those who do not know what this tool does: The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions. Who needs this tool: Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example. Quality: The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand. Outcome: I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

Summary: I had bought a WDT but the problem was that it was made with needles that just seemed awkward. They were thick, super long and only 4. Found this one and instantly felt like it was going to be much better. Came with a ton of needles (seems like I can easily find replacements later) and I can configure the number of needles to my liking! The size / quality and feel was great. Highly effective and I put my other WDT away. Awesome with my setup! Pros - Configurable to have any number of needles in any configuration - Can replace needles if they get damaged for whatever reason. I'm also going to assume that you can get different lengths as the needles seem readily available on Amazon - All metal construction - good quality Cons - The bottom of the holder is hollow which I suppose is a good thing, but just keep in mind that coffee grinds / dust may pool underneath. Would also be nice if there was a magnetic option, but I knew this wasn't that going into it. Bottom line is that I highly recommend this WDT tool based on its versatility, easy to replace parts and quality! Has been serving me well.

Very happy with this WDT. Came with extra needles and it feels like solid quality. Keep in mind it simply rests inside the bottom piece as a holder and does NOT screw together nor does it have a bottom so this is something that sits on your counter and would not be suitable as a travel WDT.
