Great battery life but cannot display seconds of time.
This unit has performed very well. Battery life is good. Expedition mode is amazing. One star off because nowhere in settings is the unit able to display seconds of time. This makes using it for remote time signal inconvenient. Otherwise great unit.

Small GPS, battery usage great, works with my Phone
It is very small GPS with an adequate view screen. The buttons, need to be pressed in the center, and are a bit stiff. It took a while to get used to the menus and buttons. Within a day of taking it out on a trail, It became easier to operate. Downloaded the manual from Garmin since the manual that comes with it is just a few pages. I paired it to a large screen phone. It works flawlessly with the phone. You get to see a nice trail map with elevation reading and all waypoints along the trail. The GPS lacks an elevation history page. The map on the GPS is really useless but the electronic compass works perfectly. Several other pages on the GPS give you ample information. This is a back-up for my other Garmin GPS... I found it small but extremely useful and accurate. Hooked it up to a phone at the end of the day and downloaded the information to my phones. The phone has a big nice map. Since I need to carry a phone, linking the two together is easy. If I need extra information I just bluetooth to my phone in seconds. For the cheapest GPS Available it a very good buy.

Simple, cost effective device for some uses
This GPS receiver is pretty obviously aimed at a subset of the usual customer community, so you'll want to make sure you know what it can / can't do before jumping at its great price. You do not get a color screen, or fancy graphics that you'd get with a $300+ unit, or even on your smart phone. What you do get is a pocketable GPS with super-long battery life (far better than any phone's), support for all existing navigation networks (GPS and Galileo and Glonass -- at the cost of reduced battery lifetime), and some broadly-useful core functions. It's great for old-school (pre-smartphone) geocaching, or orienteering, or hiking. My only real complaints so far (having just received the unit) are with the user interface / documentation. The menu system is classic Garmin, a bit "clunky." Digging through the manual isn't much better, since the unit and its manual both use... unique... terms for some things, and they're not explicitly defined anywhere. I bought the unit primarily for geotagging photos -- I need it to record a log of my path that I can later save to a GPX file. As far as my interface to the eTrex SE, this means I most often want to turn on / turn off logging and then save the data -- but doing this takes a relatively deep dive in the menus. Deeper than I'd like it to be, at any rate. I'll update this review after I put some miles on this gadget (and so can speak semi-intelligently to its actual battery life and accuracy), in the meantime, here are some terms to know as you start using the device or perusing its manual: Activity -- a recorded GPS track. You can have the device start recording automatically based on your motion, or do it manually (with some effort). You'll need to dive into the menus to end the activity / save a file in either case, so you might as well get used to this path. Course -- a pre-defined path you would subsequently like to follow. A course is defined by a series of "Locations," also called "Course Points" by the device / manual (most folks would probably call them "waypoints"). Expedition Mode -- a low-power mode to extend battery life. Bluetooth is turned off, your track is recorded less often.

Best for the price!
I love this thing, I give it 5 stars because it’s not trying to be fancy and it works well. If you’re going out hunting or into the woods it’s great for tracking your every movement and the simplicity of adding markers and marking animal tracks and trees is so great! I feel safe with its extremely ridiculous battery life! Never going hunting without it again. Find your way back to your car with ease. Important- it does. It beep when your off track… I like this for my own reasons but some may not.

Took a week to work but now I love it
Now that I finally got it working it is awesome for geocaching when in network range. During the first week I owned this it would not give me the signin code to connect it to geocaching live. After a little over a week it suddenly worked! Now that it's working it is perfect for in network geocaching. 1) the battery lasts forever 2) the screen is fantastic in bright sunlight. In fact the brighter the sun the brighter the screen! 3) it's light 4) it's small and easy to carry 5) geocaching live works great to find the most nearby caches while in network range 6) seems durable and purported to be waterproof which is important while on the trails 7) has USB C connector!!! Woohoo! Cons: 1) kind of wonky screen choices to get to the next cache. Clicky clacking around gets annoying. Maybe I can customize. I hope I can figure out how to customize this. Maybe Garmin will fix this nonsense in their next version 2) need to take the back cover off to access the USB port. But this would help keep it waterproof and keep dust and dirt out of the port so I can live with it 3) it complains about more than 1000 downloaded caches. Why oh why can't I just buy some more memory and let me store 4000 caches on it? What is the big deal Garmin? Just make it happen. I only try to get 1 cache per day so I can live with the wonkiness given the other features. Last time I grabbed some hiking caches with my family I almost exclusively used the SE and only pulled out my phone to look at the high quality trail map

The one I got was defective.
It would not stay on. Something in the battery compartment. Push a few buttons and would shut off. What little use I was able to get out of it was fine. It's a simple gps with breadcrumb features, great for getting back to where you were not so good for getting you were you haven't been. Screen is nice and clear, battery life should be as stated. If It had worked I might have kept.

I've been using this for over a year now, as a speedometer in the surfski - the batteries have lasted ages and the display is big and bright enough to see easily even in full sun.
