The total height of the device is a touch over 7.75 inches. I also had to put another piece of water proof tape towards the bottom so that it would stay mounted without swinging left or right when I used it. Now it works fine and is still in use. With my minor adaptation I am happy with it. I hope this will help you.

It comes with a plastic backing that sticks to the wall.
