Good folding saw
Light and easy in the pocket for when sawing live wood in the garden. Sturdy enough and keeps its sharpness well. My first one lasted me about 15 years before I lost it - I replaced the blade once. I had no hesitation in buying the exact same one again. As a working gardener I don't use it all the time but it's just right when I need it. The narrow blade tip will fit into cramped places e.g. in twiggy shrubs and trees, to make cuts where loppers won't fit. Great for apple tree pruning. It's comfortable in the hand and the orange on the handle makes it conspicuous. I've used cheaper pruning saws that have been more fiddly to use and go blunt quicker. This is a good balance between cost and quality.

You can't go wrong.
Having used a Bacho Laplander for a long time now, I decided to purchase a second one for a vehicle emergency kit so I don't have to keep transferring the contents of my outdoors kit. I liked this version because it is more visible when sat down on the ground and that makes it harder to loose. Important consideration for a dedicated emergency kit. After about half a year and quite a few times used, I can confirm the Bacho 396-HP is every bit as good as the Laplander. One of the best folding pocket saws out there, and I have been using saws outdoors since 1977. It cuts on both pull and push strokes so its fast. The teeth are accurately ground with a very precise set.The steel is good quality. The temper and hardening is just right. It can be resharpened with the right tools and knowledge. The hard plastic handle is robust with a tactile rubber overlay and very comfortable to use. I like the blade lock as it locks in the open and closed positions. The slip joint is nice and secure with no movement, and with very basic tools the blade can be removed for deep cleaning, sharpening and/or replacement as spares are available. For twenty quid, you just can't get a better saw. Bacho, one of the few old names still producing new gear that is fit for purpose. Well done.

Bahco 396-HP Folding Pruning Saw,Silver/Black/Orange.
These are pretty decent in fairness-far better than the 'laplander' version which has a black matt blade-so sticks in the cut to an extent and also that colour scheme seems almost designed to be lost/misplaced in a woodland/garden scenario!Another good thing is you can generally replace the blade only for about £15 or so-but good luck with finding stock given the state the U.K. is in right now,so that adds value if available.Frankly, they are not comparable in quality to the range of silky saws with the black/silver handle design. However,I note silky do a 'budget' saw with a coloured handle similar in cost and no doubt comparable performance to this saw.For most people,I think this saw will be more than good enough for casual, occasional garden pruning work. The silkies come into their own for extensive and prolonged work such as spending a morning making dozens of cuts whilst up aloft in an oversized Bramley apple tree.

Well made sturdy
I bought this pruning saw because of the name, I have other Bahco products and they have always been well made and this saw is no exception, it is sharp as anything and cut large branches with ease it is ergonomically designed so it feels good in the hand whiles also edged slightly in for the cutting angle thus putting less pressure on the wrists, it also folds nicely and when extended clicks into place with no wobble, this saw also comes with a good pouch for storage. You may well be able to buy cheaper saws but I very much doubt you will buy better than this saw. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and with Bahco for not letting me down.

Great quality, very sharp
Having used a Bahco bow saw for a number of years and been very pleased with it, I needed a small portable pruning saw. This ticks the box very nicely! The blade folds neatly in to handle and is simple to open and close. Easily cuts through wood up to about 15cm in diameter. I have been using this for about 3 months now and it's still as sharp as the day I received it.

A fantastic little saw for the price
This is a great little saw with teeth capable of giving a smooth and well-finished cut on trees and shrubs whilst pruning. The cutting action is rapid, and capable of tackling work of a startlingly large size. The sharpness and tapered nose of the blade enable it to make a cut even in tight spots amongst limbs or at the base of coppice stools or shrubs. The hard blade also makes respectable cuts in dead wood, and I found it an indispensable tool for hedging. A very competent pocket-size saw that I wouldn't be without.

A terrific little saw that cuts well above its weight
Like another reviewer, I bought this to render fallen tree branches down to a manageable size for carrying home to burn on the stove. This it does with remarkable ease, even up to a diameter of about 8cm or more. I've only used it on dead wood so far but I imagine it's equally effective on green wood. When not in use it folds away neatly for carrying in a large pocket. I've had no problems with the locking mechanism so far. It wasn't the cheapest out there but you get what you pay for. I've got other Bahco tools and the quality is consistently high.

Fantastic piece of equipment.!
Buy loads of products off Amazon and very, very rarely write reviews on anything. However, this item is amazing and deserves a review. Feels very sturdy, the blade locks and unlocks via a safety button and it's unbeliebvably sharp, cutting through tree branches with consumate ease. If considering buying a pruning saw, you may be tempted by one slightly cheaper but, if it's quality you're after, definitely don't look any further than this product. Absolutely fantastic piece of equipment.

The blade is the absolute best available on any saw it’s size. The handle is a little heavy for backpacking. The perfect combination would be this blade in their cheaper and lighter, all orange, handle.
