Frustrating and Confusing
This book is poorly laid out in terms of the steps it asks you to follow. I have been trying to complete the first project for 3 days now, and I am completely lost as to what I am supposed to be doing, no matter how many times I read back over the steps. The book has you jumping from a piece of code that eventually causes errors, to then doubling back on yourself to update objects and add further lines of code to fix the error. This may sound trivial, but the latter steps could easily have been carried out first as this would have been a smoother, more intuitive workflow and saved a lot of confusion. This happens several times within the first project!I have extensive experience with Python and JavaScript, as well as frameworks and libraries, so I am not approaching GDScript as a complete novice. I am pointing this out as the book is making me question myself about how efficient the engine is in terms of structuring the code. There also seems to be some steps missing that you will need to figure out yourself, especially towards the end of the first project. My laptop was almost the victim of my frustration, but thankfully, my own intuition saved it.I will put the book aside and follow different tutorials. Maybe when I build up enough knowledge around the Godot engine, I will revisit it. Until then, I will seek some therapy, hopefully stop crying, and apologise to my laptop for the abuse it has taken!

Fine but sloppy
The book is fine but increasingly frustrating ( I am about half way through ). It’s a bit sloppy in places. For example the way some things are worded you are not always sure on what mode you are supposed to do things on. Then In the second exercise it seems like the part to increase the score is just totally missing.Looks like the projects in this book are recycled from the authors other book “Godot engine game development projects” so I suspect maybe a bad copy paste job :-(

A near perfect guide for anyone starting out
I've been learning game development for the last year as a hobby. I started with Unity books, but they get complex quickly. Unreal Blueprint books, but they get confusing quickly. I figured I would try Godot and this book was recommened. It is a fantastic learning tool and easy to follow (although being in IT maybe I have a slight edge). The flow of development and explinations of 'why we do it this way' are very good. I will admit that there are pieces of the code that if you blindly follow you will end up in a situation that has you wondering what is going on - but I was able to fix those myself using just knowledge gained from the book. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to get into Godot - I'm 42% of the way through and it is by far the best of the 'learn to make games' books I've read in the last few months.

Great introduction to Godot 4
I've been writing various types of software for 10 years and was interested in learning Godot for 2D games. This book turned out to be informative and easy to follow and gave me the knowledge I was seeking. I learn best by example, and this project focused book was excellent in that regard. If you have zero programming experience, I would recommend learning something like Python before diving into this book. The book teaches with GDScript, which is Godot's Python-like programming language. There are some minor mistakes in the book, but an errata is currently being kept up-to-date on the github repository for the book. I opened a few issues for things I discovered, and the author added those things to the errata. Keep this in mind if you end up getting stuck on something and are 100% sure you followed the directions in the book.I use Unreal for 3D games, so I have not yet gone through the chapters of this book for 3D games. I wouldn't expect a drastic drop in quality, but for the purposes of this review I can't give any insight on the 3D chapters.
