Would the "audio only" earphones not work if plugged into an apple or android device? if not, will it work with all other mp3 devices?

So long as the plug is a standard 3mm they are all the same length, the one without a microphone has two sections on the plug, the other with mic will have three. Its more likely that the earphones with 3 sections might have a problem with a sound only device. Any MP3 player that has 3mm sound socket will work with audio only earphones. Hope this helps.

what does it mean by audio only?

It means this is the no Mic version.

Is it made with rubber?

The earbuds that are in contact with your ears are sort of a soft rubber. Comfortable for wearing over long periods of time.

What 'normal' guarantee do these have?

Not sure what you mean by "normal guaranty", but the are covered by a 2 year warranty by Bose after registering the serial number if bought from an authorised reseller.
