Yes, it is a sewn binding. I did pull one sheet out to give to someone, but the other "half" of the sheet became loose. (It is easily taped back into the book since it had already been written on.). I bought these to track my Geocaching finds as they fit perfectly into the little cover that someone made for me. I also liked that it came in a set of multiple books.

The pages have separated with some moderate use

It has a hard cardboard cover, but unless these have changed since I last purchased them years ago the quality of the item is not that good. The pages are glued, not bound like a traditional composition notebook so they tend to fall out.
