The little spinning wheel doesn’t really spin but it’s ploy anyway. For true surface skimming you need a weir, which no product of this nature offers anyway. Setup is simple and it’s quiet. Highly doubt you’ll find a better one in this price range and I’ve been in the aquarium hobby for years.

Man this little filter does a great job. It's silent, and the function for changing the water flow is fantastic. It does its job really well. The only issue is that I can't seem to get the surface skimmer to work. And as others have said, the shortest length of the suction pipe is still pretty long and touching the top of my substrate. If I can get the skimmer to work, I'll update and change to 5 stars. Might buy another to replace my noisy Tetra Whisper that sounds like a microwave going

I got this because I really needed a surface skimmer for my nano tank. I really didn't want to replace the filter I had because it was super quiet and effecent plus small. This one works really well I'm happy with it so far. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because the intake tube is way too long and I think it's causing issues with keeping the skimmer spinning as the instructions say "they can't overlap". I currently have the tube pretty much as far in as it will go and it still touches the bottom of my tank. I have to keep the water level higher than I usually do so that the skimmer will spin. My filter is also a bit noisy. I believe this is being caused by the skimmer as well as its quiet when the skimmer isn't moving. Overall I'm pretty satisfied as I no longer have to deal with all the surface scum and whatnot that used to be at the top of my tank. The water in my tank is crystal clear.

It’s very quiet and easy to use. However the little surface skimmer doesn’t spin, so that is why it isn’t a five star. But it keeps my tank clean and clear.
