Everyday above ground is a good one.....
This TV series revolves around the life of a family (Fishers) that runs an independent funeral home and how they cope with grief of their own. Is it a dark comedy? No. It is a drama that has a few comedic moments. Season 1 begins with a tragedy for the main family and then goes on to show how they adapt to his absence. All the characters are excellent and bring thier own set of problems to the story. Each episode, while presenting a new set of dilemas, is part of the ongoing healing process for the Fisher family and story for the viewer. Sometimes sweet and sometime bitter, but always entertaining, Six Feet Under is compulsive viewing. All the issues are here, but dealt with in a way that really does make you laugh and cry with the characters. Brilliant actors; amazing acting and a fantastic script combined with talented directors. TV does not get any better than this.10/10

Fifty shades of vulnerable
I loved this when it was shown on television but missed the opening series so it's wonderful to play catch up. Most of the characters are endearingly - and sometimes frighteningly - vulnerable and few of them understand themselves so they choose sex when they want love or understanding or respect. The few negative reviews are from viewers who expected a comedy but this is a dark drama with occasional comedic moments aimed at the empathic adult viewer. I love the notion of a QVC station aimed at funeral directors but appreciate that this isn't to everyone's taste. If you're one of those `grief tourists' who posts about dead people being `angels' then this isn't for you as it shows death in its true sanguinary colours, the scents and stains of a body breaking down. Kudos to the writers, actors and film makers involved in this exemplary piece of storytelling. It makes for mesmerising viewing

I forgot just how good this series was
It always struck me as funny that a series that revolved around a family of Pasadena undertakers was so popular, I have just bought all 6 episodes , and I am reminded of why it was so good, its a series that can be watched over and over again which I intend to do.

I've tried...
I've tried getting through this season twice now. Alan Ball's American Beauty is one of my all time favourites, but I find this show extremely dull.Unlikeable characters, inconsistent performances & boring storylines. This is was far from top tier television...

Amazing - words fail me
This series is amazing, I can't believe I dicovered it years after its release. It has it all. I laughed, cried, was shocked and entertained. In some episodes I had floods of emotion. This is a very powerful series, not to be missed. The series details a family who a funeral parlor in the traditional sense that it is run from their home. It depicts the lives of the family collectively and individually and is epic to say. The least.

Good one.
Interesting and funny, if you are that way inclined. My family are not keen, but I love it. Incidentally, one of the main characters is played by Michael Hall, who later starred as "Dexter", which - IMO - was additionally interesting.

Second-hand, but played evetually.
First disc needed a going-over with Brasso to get the DVD player to accept it. Other discs sometimes needed a bit of time to start up. Once going the quality was fine thanks.
