I can't say that I've ever had a problem with these. They were a little hard to find. The last pack I purchased was a large quantity. This pack should last me the rest of my life.

Mechanical Pencils
Got this massive box for my daughter who draws and uses them for school. According to her, the grips are nice, fit good in her hand, and the lead is smooth. Also loves the assorted colors and lead sizes.

Exactly what you expect
More pencils than one student is likely to use in 2 years. Buy some lead refills to go with it and you're set for all of middle school and possibly high school. Reasonably comfortable to use. Your kid will probably lose it before they destroy it as long as they don't try to break it.Great buy for the teachers in your life!
